Dear Recommender: The School of Rock is a professional development opportunity for formal and informal educators involving the JOIDES Resolution. This year, while in residence in San Diego, educators and graduate students will work with scientists and to learn about many aspects of earth science, geology, paleo-oceanography and more, explore Gulf of California geology, investigate the nature and process of science, and learn what we learn from scientific ocean drilling. They will also have the opportunity to tour the JR during its first port call in the mainland U.S. in a decade. This new-found knowledge will help teachers in creating or modifying existing resources for their students in many areas of the science curriculum. By the end of the workshop, participants will prepare a dissemination plan for how they will use their new knowledge, connections and resources.
