Prospectus and Entry Form
The Arts Council is an organization that supports arts & culture in Wichita through advocacy, leadership, education and collaboration. The Juried Exhibition is housed at CityArts. CityArts offers exhibitions, artistic demonstrations and sales opportunities for local and regional artists and provides creative educational opportunities for arts and cultural activities and programming for citizens of all ages, ethnicities, and financial status.
Selections and Awards Juror:
The Selections and Awards Juror for this year’s Arts Council Juried Exhibition is Michael McCaffrey. He is an award winning and nationally exhibited painter. Mr. McCaffrey received his BFA from the University of Kansas and his MFA from Indiana University, majoring in painting. He also has extensive experience teaching on a college level.
First Place - $1000 Second Place - $750 Third Place - $500
In addition to cash awards, there is also a chance to schedule a solo show at CityArts.
This show is open to artists ages 18 and older, currently or previously living in Kansas. All mediums are accepted for entry and consideration. Work entered must have been produced in the past 3 years and must be original, not copied from other artists or from published materials. All 2D work must be ready to hang with wire. Work on paper must be framed unless special circumstances for display don’t allow framing. In that case there must be clear directions from the artist along with specific hardware if needed. All 3D work must be ready to install. Work that is overtly political in nature, contains nudity or profanity will not be accepted. Entries must not have previously been shown at CityArts. CityArts reserves the right to exclude any work that doesn’t meet the requirements.
Friday, September 27, 2019 – Entries due
Monday, October 14, 2019 – Notification of accepted artists begins
Thursday, October 24, 2019 – Accepted work and artist packet with filled out forms must be received at CityArts by 5pm. If work must be shipped rather than hand delivered, artist is responsible for arranging and paying shipping. We recommend setting up an account with Fed Ex for convenience.
Wednesday, October 30, 2019 – private reception and awards ceremony, 6-7pm
Friday, November 1, 2019 – show opens to public, 5-8pm
Friday, November 22, 2019 - Show closes. Those artists that choose to, can leave their work up through December for Gifts In The Gallery
December 2, 2019 – Artwork ready for pick up for those who don’t choose to be part of Gifts In The Gallery.
Directions For Entry
By submitting your work and entry fee you are agreeing to the following:
I verify that the art being submitted is original in design, is not copied from any other source, and has not been previously shown at CityArts, including previous Arts Council Juried Exhibitions.
I understand that The Arts Council retains 40% commission on pieces sold. They will also collect and remit sales tax on those sales.
I understand that CityArts will use the utmost care in handling my artwork, however, I will not hold CityArts or its representatives responsible for any loss or damage.
I understand that it is my responsibility to make sure artwork arrives on time and is picked up on time including shipping arrangements and expenses.
I understand that CityArts allows photography in their gallery.
I give permission for my work to be photographed for marketing purposes.
Entry fee: Artists may submit up to 5 pieces with a $30 non-refundable entry fee. Submitting more than 5 pieces will result in ineligibility.
Sales: All sales will be handled through CityArts, including collecting and paying sales tax. Unless you have a preexisting agreement with CityArts, a 40% commission is retained by the Arts Council.
Expectations of Artist
All artwork must be listed on artist’s inventory list. All artwork must be individually labeled with a price, which should correspond with the inventory list.
Artists are required to submit a W-9 tax from if accepted into exhibition.
Artwork cannot be removed or replaced for any reason for the duration
of the exhibition.
CityArts will not provide shipping or handling costs, framing supplies or insurance for work(s) displayed at CityArts.
Sold artwork will be available to the purchaser following the closing of the
exhibition. CityArts will handle the notification and coordination of artwork pickup with the buyer.
CityArts shall pay artist proceeds from sales within 45 days of artwork sale.
CityArts will not be held responsible for any type of copyright infringement. All works of art must be the artist’s own original ideas and assembly.
By exhibiting artwork at CityArts, the artist agrees to have their name and images of their artwork used for marketing and educational purposes.
