  • FIG Membership Application

Our Mission: FIG, the Feminist Image Group, is a coalition of professional artists who meet to organize exhibitions, discuss art, see exhibitions, and support one another in our careers. We promote an inclusive world view that allows all voices. As friends, we aid each other in our creative and curatorial endeavors.
  • FIG, founded in 2009, has sponsored national and international exhibitions, performances, and panel discussions at Garage 4141, the San Diego Repertory Theatre, Grossmont College, Mesa College Art Gallery, Sophie's Gallery NTC, San Diego Art Department, the San Diego Art Fair, Southwestern College, Art Produce, the San Diego Art Institute, and the Athenaeum Art Center Gallery. Visit our blog for more information.

  • Applications for membership are accepted year round, but will only be reviewed in October and March. For the October review period, please have applications submitted by September 30. For March, applications should be submitted by February 28. Applications are reviewed by the committee by the end of October and March; they will contact you with results. Please be patient. The committee will review work online. Because of this, a link to your personal website, Instagram, or Pinterest board showing your work is required. Facebook is not an acceptable link, due to a lack of access if we are not connected. Please read our Application FAQ before emailing questions to the committee.

All inquiries, nominations, and applications will be held in the strictest confidence.

To ensure consistency and fairness to all applicants, do not submit materials other than those requested.

The membership committee uses a professional assessment rubric to evaluate applicants so that every application receives equal respect, impartiality, and fairness. The rubric assesses the professional creative activities of the applicant, and places an emphasis on the applicant's ability to articulate feminist themes using language, as well as the applicant's ability to explain their future contribution to the group (see FAQ for details on these elements).

  • Contributor's Statement: FIG is a volunteer organization that is dependent on a cooperative effort to exist. This includes hanging and de-installing shows, painting, climbing ladders, making press contacts, sending press releases, updating blogs, photographing work, making databases, curating shows, finding galleries, fielding emails, handling social media, etc. Inclusion in these processes is mandatory. This is the only way we can function.

With that in mind, please answer the following questions.
