The Jesus Silva Healing Yoga Scholarship Fund supports the regular practice of yoga for people who might otherwise not have the resources to be a part of small group, personal practice and who would benefit greatly from a regular practice of yoga.

The scholarship covers monthly group yoga memberships,  All information provided is private and recipients' identities are not disclosed.

Scholarship recipients are asked to donate, via PayPal, a minimum of $1/month or exchange services needed by Badlands Yoga or community members. This could be helping out with social media, newsletters, or reading to someone in a nursing home - or anything in between. Usually 1-4 hours per month. 

This scholarship was established in honor of Jesus Silva, father of member Lucy Silva. "Caregiving my dad for 5+ years was the hardest job I’ve ever loved.  When my mother died unexpectedly, he stubbornly insisted that he wanted to stay in their home at age 93.  I had just gone through a divorce and sold our home, and the stress of that transition affected my ability to do my job of 16+ years – it seemed the time was right for a change.  I uprooted myself after 30+ years in southern AZ and moved to TX to keep him company as we both grieved our losses and healed. 

Yoga was a big part of that journey for me and offered the support I needed for maintaining the balance necessary for caring for my dad and myself as we began our new lives.  Seeding this scholarship is part of my “paying it forward” for all I have gained from sharing my yoga practice with others.  It’s my vision that others may contribute to the fund from this same feeling of gratitude – one of the many lessons I learned from my dad.

Procedure:

You will be emailed when your application is received.

You will learn within a week whether your application is approved. You will have 30 days to begin your membership.  

Scholarship memberships continue for 6 months, at which time eligibility is re-evaluated. 

Recipients of small group practice memberships agree to practice at least once a week with Badlands Yoga's teachers via zoom.

Recipients of private sessions agree to meet once a month via zoom.
