Eighteen years ago on September 11th , 2001, my world would change forever. That morning we watched in horror and disbelief as the Twin Towers came crashing to earth. With heavy hearts my husband and I drove to my breast biopsy scheduled for later that same day. Shock and fear struck our family once again the next week as we received the devastating news that my biopsy had come back malignant.
At only 39 years old with 5 beautiful children, I began the fight of my life. After successful initial treatment and 5 years cancer-free, a lab test that was just a ‘little off’ would once again bring me the news that my breast cancer had recurred on my liver; and the fight was on again! I am so blessed to be here and healthy (with grown kids doing awesome things) and ready to challenge myself in a new way---climbing one BIG mountain!
Being a cancer survivor I've learned many things: I'm stronger than I ever knew I was and that I never could have done it without the amazing support, love, and continuous encouragement of those around me. I was never alone after my cancer diagnosis. From my awesome husband, family, and friends to my incredible oncologist and health care providers, I always knew it was always a TEAM effort.
It is with that same spirit that I choose to climb a mountain! TSNW is an amazing organization to help women cancer survivors stay active, healthy and as I'm learning, have a blast doing it! Team Survivor encourages us to stay healthy, stay strong.
