Phone, Email & Text Support
From the date of hire, I am available to you by phone, text and email. I am available during normal daytime hours (no set office hours, just be reasonable :-) and will respond within one business day, although usually much sooner.
We usually have one prenatal meeting around 34 to 36 weeks. It lasts about two hours and it’s important that your birth partner be present as well if at all possible. I'm happy to provide a second prenatal meeting if you find it necessary.
Four in-home, 60 minute prenatal massages are included in this package. It is your responsibility to book these before your due date. Unless you unexpectedly give birth before your estimated due date, or there are extenuating circumstances, massages cannot be redeemed after giving birth.
One two-hour, in-home postnatal massage is included. It is your responsibility to book this within six weeks after giving birth.
This includes my placenta encapsulation Cypress Package (see website for details). I will provide a cooler if necessary and transport your placenta both from your birthing place and to your home for delivery. In the event that your placenta cannot be encapsulated due to infection, I will provide a $300 refund.
As your due date nears, our communication tends to increase naturally and it is important to let the me know when you think labor has begun, even if you don't yet need me. I can answer questions and make suggestions over the phone and together we will decide if I should come right then or wait for further changes. We will also decide whether to meet at your home, the hospital, or the birthing center. If I join you and contractions slow down, or we decide that you are still in early labor, I will go home and rest to better support you when things intensify.
To contact me for labor support, you must call me at 512-826-2147. A text message or email is not appropriate. I WILL sleep through a text message!
In the event of a scheduled cesarean, I will meet you at the hospital and provide support through the birth and until you are settled and ready for quiet time with your family. Payment is due in full and in lieu of labor support time, I will provide you with four hours of daytime postpartum care which must must be redeemed within 60 days of birth.
For induction, I can meet you at the hospital for in-person support if requested and then return as labor progresses. Because some inductions take over 48 hours, I may go back and forth between the hospital and taking longer breaks at home. This is discussed with you and only when you are not yet in active labor.
If you go into labor before 38 weeks, please call me! I will likely still be able to attend your birth and provide support. If I join you for your birth before the on-call period begins, or a backup doula is sent in my place, payment is due in full. If I am unable to join you, your birth fee is waived.
In the rare event that I cannot attend your birth, a back-up doula will be provided.
In the event of a long labor I have the right to call in back-up for a few hours so I may rest. This isn't common, but is important if necessary. It allows me to be well rested and support you better, while still offering continuous labor support.
We will have one postpartum visit at your home after the birth, usually between two days and two weeks postpartum. During this visit, we get to discuss your birth experience and I can provide breastfeeding support and referrals to community resources if necessary.
Failure to Provide Services
If I fail to join you for your birth through my own actions, and I do not provide a backup doula as a replacement, your birth fee will be refunded. If I miss your birth due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, such as severe weather conditions, precipitous birth (less than 2 hours of labor, total), payment is due in full and I will provide you with four hours of daytime postpartum care. Postpartum hours must be redeemed within 60 days of birth. From the time you ask me to join you, I have two hours to reach your birthing place.
Failure to contact me during labor, refusal of services, or refusal to use backup doula are not grounds for a refund of any payment. Under any of these circumstances, payment is due in full and no refund or postpartum care will be given.
