  • COVID-19

  • An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious virus that can lead to severe illness and/or death. According to the Center for Disease Control senior citizens and people that have a comprised immune system due to an underlying illness are more vulnerable. Underlying illnesses include but are not limited to lung disease, serious heart conditions, severe obesity, liver disease, or kidney disease. It may also be more severe in people who are immunocompromised. Conditions that cause one to become immunocompromised are smoking, cancer treatment, immune deficiencies, prolonged use of corticosteroids among other drugs that compromise immunity.

Note that the medical insurance secured for our Exchange Visitors exceeds the minimum standards for the program and includes doctor prescribed testing and treatment for COVID-19 where a participant begins to show symptoms, as long as it is not a pre-existing condition prior to arrival in the program.

To be most confident in the safety and well-being of our participants, host employers and community, we are requiring that each participant understand and agree that they will not enter the Program until they have been symptom free for 10 days from the onset of symptoms and fever free for 72 hours without the use of fever reducing medications or has been evaluated by an MD and tested negative for Covid-19 with appropriate testing.

  • All sponsor approved employers are taking safety measures and following local guidelines for sanitation and changes in procedures to mitigate the outbreak of COVID-19. These measures mitigate exposure to the virus but neither the sponsor or the employer can guarantee that an Exchange Visitor will not be exposed to the virus whether in travel to and from the host employer or in contact with others at during their exchange program.

  • During the pandemic, businesses have periodically shut down either voluntarily or at the direction or their local or state authorities. The undersigned Exchange Visitor understands that should the host employer need to modify operating hours or close for any period of time during the program, LifeTraveled is not responsible for any lost wages to the participant. The Exchange Visitor understands he/she is not eligible for unemployment compensation and should be prepared to financially support themselves for the entire program or any extended period of time should borders be closed and Exchange Visitor may not be able to travel back home at the conclusion of the program in the event this occurs. If this occurs, the undersigning Exchange Visitor understands that no portion of the program fee is refundable.

  • If undersigned Exchange Visitor is exposed to and/or tests positive for COVID-19, the employer may require an unpaid quarantine or isolation period. The Exchange Visitors understands they must follow the COVID-19 policy of their employer, which can be modified during any point of their program by the employer. The Exchange Visitor should be prepared to financially support themselves in this event. If a participant's roommate(s) test positive for COVID-19, the landlord is not responsible to relocate the participant. If the participant wants to isolate from the COVID-19 positive roommate(s), the cost will be at the particpant's expense.

  • Should a new outbreak occur, and conditions require for the host employer to close, LifeTraveled will evaluate the conditions globally for the health, welfare and safety of the Exchange Visitor. Should it be determined it is no longer safe to remain in the United States OR expected that borders to the home country of the Exchange Visitor close, LifeTraveled may require the Exchange Visitor to repatriate. If this occurs, the undersigning Exchange Visitor understands that no portion of the program fee is refundable.

  • By taking part in the J1 Summer Work and Travel program this summer, the undersigned Exchange Visitor acknowledges that he/she is voluntarily participating in the program and he/she hereby releases and holds the sponsor, the host employer, its directors, officers, employees and agents harmless from all liability to the undersigned Exchange Vistor and his/her personal representatives.

  • The undersigned Exchange Visitor further expressly agrees that this Release and Indemnity agreement is intended to be used as broadly and inclusively as is permitted by law in California and the law in the host employer’s state. If any portion is invalid, it is agreed that the balance shall, notwithstanding, continue in full force and effect.

  • The undersigned Exchange Visitor has read this release and indemnity clause, and agrees that no oral representations, statements or inducement apart from the foregoing written release have been made. Exchange Visitor understands and voluntarily agrees to the terms of this release.
