  • Global Purpose Academy follows The Global Purpose Approach. This approach is based on action research developed by Dr. Tarece Johnson. The Global Purpose Approach includes a process called: PEOPLE P.E.O.P.L.E. is an acronym for: Purpose, Exploration, Observation, Perspective, Language, and Experience. As a result of primary and secondary research, GPA developed the P.E.O.P.L.E. process to help administrators and teachers develop and enhance global competence for themselves and their students.  Purpose focuses on understanding one’s objective in life. The approach facilitates the building of one’s self image and understanding of who they are. It helps one to discover one’s gifts, talents and abilities. Exploration encourages teachers and students to develop a curiosity about other people and things. It helps one to understand that combating their own internal fears and ignorance allows one to embark on different experiences and gain new information. Observation allows one to witness and process data in a way that provides clarity, helps to solve a problem and facilitates reflection. It not only improves the way teachers and students learn, but it provides insight into new methods of teaching and receiving information. Perspective is important for global competence because it helps one to see the world from another person’s point of view. The level of consciousness that is developed though perspective breeds a leader who is aware of global issues and the impact of their decisions. Seeing life through another person’s world helps to foster respect, appreciation, acceptance and love for others. These all facilitate positive business relations and world peace. Language is an essential part of communicating and connecting with others. It not only helps one to express ideas and negotiate effectively, but it bridges the gap to cultural understanding. Language and culture are fundamental in developing a global minded person who understands the cultural nuances necessary to conduct business successfully around the world. Experience in other cultures different from one’s own helps to foster cultural, business, political and social understanding. Immersive international experiences connect language and culture learning in a way that more effectively builds one’s level of global competence because one explores and observes the daily life of others. One may not only have a unique perspective about people who are different and/or similar, but one develops understanding of self. These are powerful experiences that help one to discover and understand their purpose. It creates a whole new level of global consciousness that breeds a transformative leader.

  • POLICIES and PROCEDURES
     Admission
Any child is welcome that shows a readiness for GPA’s philosophy and global education. Along with the child's readiness, the parent must be willing to participate in school activities and follow the policies and procedures. Parental involvement is key to the success of the child, therefore GPA requires parents to volunteer when possible, assist child with homework / projects and attend school meetings, conferences and events.

Global Purpose Academy’s registration process is complete when the prospective family returns the completed Application and Registration forms and the required fees. Upon receipt of the Application and fee payment, there will be a visit set up for the prospective student and the student will meet the teacher and will be allowed to explore the classroom for a 30 minute period. We cannot guarantee that a space will be available for your child on the day you desire. During this visit your child may spend approximately thirty minutes in the classroom for observation purposes. If there is a mutual fit, you may submit the online Registration / Enrollment form and complete it by the first day of school along with the current immunization / health records, tuition and the deposit fees.

    Enrollment
During the enrollment process, you must complete forms regarding your child's health and development. These forms include family information, a medical authorization, and other important forms.  Updated physical (DPH) and immunization records (forms 3131 and 3300) are required for your child prior to enrollment.  You are also expected to read and sign the Parent Handbook agreement that outlines the school's policies and parental participation / volunteer agreement. This will ensure that you are familiar with all of our operating procedures.

    Program Placement and Waiting List
Children are placed in programs based upon a combination of their development and chronological age. Concerning a waiting list, if a place is not available during the application process, your child can be placed on our waiting list. When an opening occurs, the school will select an applicant based on the overall profile of the classroom and child. We try to accommodate the needs of families. Unfortunately, there may be times when we cannot guarantee a start date more than two weeks in advance. Once your child is accepted, you will need to complete the enrollment procedure and submit fees.

  • PAYMENT POLICY
Annual registration: All families are required to pay the annual registration fee at enrollment and then at the start of every school year. Deposit: At the time of enrollment, a non-refundable** enrollment deposit payment must be made to be held as payment against your last week of enrollment and must be submitted with your enrollment forms. This deposit will be “paid” on your last week of school when the time comes. A deposit must be made for EACH child. *$370 deposit per child is required to enroll UNLESS you provide a valid credit card to leave on file as a back-up method of payment AND/OR sign up for our auto pay option. If you do this, no deposit is required. *Deposits for children receiving child care assistance or other subsidy cannot be waived.*Children dropping in for less than two weeks will not be required to leave a deposit, but will need to pay for services in advance. **Unfortunately, if you ask us to enroll your child and then change your mind (for any reason) prior to actually beginning services with Global Purpose Academy, this payment is NON-refundable. Also, this deposit will not be pro-rated or refunded if you choose to withdraw your child without notice. This deposit will only be pro-rated and/or refunded if proper notice is given AND there is an over payment on the account. If any refund of the deposit is owed to the family, GPA will issue a check to the family within 14 days of the child’s withdraw date.

    Tuition
Tuition is typically assessed on a school year basis. To assist our parents in budgeting, we have divided the required tuition into weekly, biweekly, monthly, quarterly, bi-annual or annual payment amounts. You may choose any payment option that suits your needs. The amount due for tuition each year is therefore a fixed tuition rate for each child. If you pay weekly, we divide that figure into more amicable weekly amounts. If bi-weekly or monthly, the same idea is used to break up the annual tuition and ease the burden of larger payments. Whatever payment alternative is chosen, parents will make consistent payment amounts each payment period so that their total payments add up to the schools’ tuition by years’ end. Please note that parents who participate in the monthly, quarterly, bi-annual or annual payment plan receive a discount from our normal annual tuition rate. The summer enrichment session (June & July) rates will remain the same as throughout the regular school year.

    Payment Due
Tuition payment is due before services are rendered. Therefore, tuition is due before (or on) the first day of the week, month or year for which those services are provided. If tuition is not paid by the due date, a late fee of $10.00 will be added to the tuition for each day that it is late. There will be a 2-day grace period for the occasions payment on time is difficult, but we encourage all parents to please make timely payments. All monies past due must be satisfied before the next week’s/month"s tuition is due in order for your child to remain in school. Parents who consistently make late payments (2 or more during the year) are required to participate in the Automatic Payment Program

    Absences / Holidays
As part of the tuition determination process, GPA budgets for all operating expenses over the calendar year, considering closings, holidays, enrichment sessions, inclement weather days and other factors. In order to keep tuition at its lowest per payment period, the total tuition necessary is then evenly divided among all payment periods. Therefore, there is no tuition discount during weeks/months that have holidays, school closings, vacations or enrichment periods. Also, days missed for illness, snow days, personal reasons or other also do not affect the tuition due. If payments are reduced or skipped for any reason, a parents total annual tuition payments will not add up to the required amount to satisfy the annual tuition.

    Return Check Fee
A $40.00 fee will be charged for a check returned for insufficient funds. If this occurs, Global Purpose Academy will have the option to refuse any future check. If GPA gets a returned check for insufficient funds on two occasions, you will be required to move to a weekly payment program AND participate in GPA’s automatic payment program.

    Automatic Payment Program
Parents may elect to participate in GPA's Automatic Payment Program via PayPal, debit/credit card or personal bank account. If you would like to participate in this program, please complete the automatic payment form.

  • Uniform
GPA students must wear their school uniform everyday. Uniforms may be purchased online from Lands’ End. The GPA uniform consist of a branded yellow or teal or white shirt with any blue / black / khaki pants, shorts or skirt. Students must also wear closed toe shoes.

     Nap Mat
Parents with children ages 18 months – 4 years must purchase/bring a nap mat (blanket w/pillow). GPA prefers the Wildkin brand because it is the safest nap mat on the market. It is toxin free and naturally flame retardant. Wildkin Nap Mats are never treated with chemicals and are rigorously tested to ensure that all parts are lead, BPA, PVC and phthalate free. Each nap map comes with its own matching pillow and carrying sack. Please note: You are not required to purchase the Wildkin brand; you may purchase another brand of nap mat or simply bring your child’s favorite blanket or pillow from your home. Please ensure that you label your child’s belongings with their full name.

    Toilet Training and Independent Usage
GPA is a school; therefore we require students preschool and above to be FULLY toilet-trained and independent dressers.  Children ages 18 months - 2 years (Toddler Program) are not required to be toilet trained and independent.

In order for your child to participate in the GPA's Preschool Program (ages 3 - 5) he/she must be completely toilet-trained and a self-dresser.

Being toilet trained requires the following:
    • Children are aware of their need to use the bathroom and can recognize this in a timely manner to make it to the bathroom.
    • Children are able to clearly articulate their need to use the bathroom and/or change their clothes.
    • Children are able to take care of all their toilet needs independently. This includes wiping themselves and being able to completely change on their own should an accident occur.
    • Students are expected to enter the bathroom stall alone without assistance (wiping, dressing, washing hands, etc.).
    • Teachers do not change diapers/pull-ups.
    • Disposable pull-up pants may be worn only at naptime and the child must be able to put on and take off the pull-up and wipes him/herself without assistance.
    • When a child is toilet trained, we understand that an accident (an untimely recognition of need to use bathroom) may still occur, however, we do not consider it toilet trained if it occurs more often than every few months.
    • In the event of an accidental wetting, children will need to independently change themselves into dry clothes provided by the parent. Therefore, we ask that you bring a set of clean clothes with your child.
    • In the event of a bowel accident, parents will be called to change their child.
    • In the event that a child is not fully toilet trained and a wetting or bowel accident occurs 2 times within a 2 week period, a plan will need to be created that may include exclusion from the Preschool Program (he/she will be placed in the Toddler Program) until the child can take care of his/her needs independently. If absolutely necessary, staff members will wear latex gloves when dealing with any bodily fluids as a safety precaution.

  • Schedule ChangesSchedule changes should be made at least one month in advance, in writing (via e-mail, handwritten note or letter), addressed to the Director. If you have an emergency and need to alter your schedule, do no hesitate to contact the school. We are open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Please schedule your time accordingly.

     Drop-off Time
Drop off time is between 7:00am – 8:25am. If your child cannot be at school by 8:30 am he or she must be accompanied by a written excuse.

    Pick-up Times
Pick up by 3:30pm. If pick up is after 3:40pm, late fees will apply.
    Afterschool Program:
Monday - Thursday pick up = 6:30pm and Friday pick up is = 5pm.  If you pick your child up 10 minutes late, late fees will apply.

    Late Pick up Fee
It is important that children be picked up at their scheduled time. There is a $1.00 per minute/per child late pickup fee. If you are late this fee is to be paid upon arrival at the school.

    Sign in / out
Parents / guardians, visitors and volunteers are required to sign in and out upon entering and exiting the facility. Parents may use the paper or online sign-in and out system to record the attendance of their child(ren).

    Tardies
School starts at 8:30 am. If your child arrives after that time, it will be considered a tardy. Three tardies are an absence.

     Absence
Please call/e-mail/text the school if your child is going to be absent or arrive after 8:30 a.m. If we do not hear from you, we will be concerned about your child. We will also assume that you will not be attending that day. If your child has a contagious illness, please notify the school so that other families can be alerted to look for symptoms in their children. We will send a notification via e-mail and post a notice on the Parent Information Bulletin Board to alert parents regarding possible exposure.

    Authorized Pick up
Each child will be released only to a parent or legal guardian or to persons whose names are listed on the Authorized Pick-up form. Parents / Guardians must escort child to/from the school. Families should advise the Director in advance, in writing, if an alternate or a person not listed on the original form is to pick up their child. For the safety of each child, photographic driver's license will be requested of all authorized persons picking up the children. We spend a lot of time building the trust of the children in our care; for that reason, we will not release children to a person they do not know. Global Purpose  Academy cannot legally deny access to a parent or guardian unless there is an active restraining order on file or a specific schedule of court-ordered visitation rights that prohibits this. If the situation is unclear, we request that the family go back to the court to resolve their differences.

    Transportation
Families or other authorized persons are responsible for transporting their child to and from the school in an appropriate child restraint system. If someone other than yourself will be picking your child up from school, please make sure you leave your child's car seat or that the individual has an appropriate car seat for your child. Global Purpose Academy does not provide transportation to or from the school. If you need transportation services to and from GPA, please make appropriate arrangements.

Childcare and Private Tutoring by School Faculty
In an effort to maintain the professional status of Global Purpose Academy faculty and prevent any potential conflict of interest, childcare and private tutoring by school faculty is strongly discouraged. However, should a staff member provide childcare or private tutoring, services must be outside school premises and with the understanding that such arrangement and payment for services is solely between the staff member and the child's family. The Administrator/Director of Global Purpose Academy does not sanction the arrangements.

  • Inclement Weather
From time to time inclement weather may prohibit the school from opening. Parents should watch the local television stations [11 Alive] for announcements of closing or delayed openings: we typically follow Gwinnett County.

Children's Records (Confidentiality and Distribution of Records)
The information in your child's record is considered privileged and confidential. The authorized person that has access to your child’s file will be the Administration of Global Purpose Academy and authorized representative of Bright from the Start, the state-licensing agency. As a parent/guardian, you may have access to your child's record within two days of a request to view the record. Upon withdrawal of your child from the school, the students file will be retained for 12 months. As a parent/guardian, you have the right to add information, comments, data or other relevant material to your child's records. You are required to update the school concerning change in your living status. When your child leaves the school, his/her records can be forwarded to an institution of your choice.

    State Regulatory Agency
A state regulatory agency may review your child's record in order to ensure the school has followed its requirements in maintaining the necessary information. All information in the record is kept confidential. Global Purpose Academy is required to have a copy of all state regulations available at the school. These regulations are available to all parents/guardians.

    Health and Safety
Global Purpose Academy understands that it is difficult for a parent/guardian to leave or miss work; therefore it is suggested that alternative arrangements be made for occasions when children must remain at home or be picked up due to illness. Exclusion from the school is sometimes necessary to reduce the transmission of illness or because the school is not able to adequately meet the needs of the child. Mild illness is common among children. Because, with many conditions, children spread infectious agents before showing any symptoms, exclusion serves no purpose, as long as we can keep them comfortable throughout the day. These children do not represent any harm to other children.  Children should be excluded from school for the following reasons (this list covers most common illnesses, but it is not inclusive of all reasons for exclusions):
    • Illness that prevents the child from participating comfortably in program activities
    • Illness that results in a greater need for care that our faculty can provide without compromising the health and safety of other children
    • Fever over 100 degree accompanied by other symptoms, i.e., lethargy, irritability, constant crying, difficulty breathing, diarrhea, vomiting
    • Diarrhea - stools with blood or mucus, and/or uncontrolled, uniformed stools that cannot be contained in a diaper/underwear or toilet
    • Vomiting - green or bloody, and/or 2 or more times during the previous 24 hours
    • Mouth sores associated with drooling
    • Rash with fever or behavioral changes, unless a physician has determined it is not a communicable disease
    • Conjunctivitis (pink or red conjunctivitis with white or yellow eye discharge) until on antibiotics for 24 hours
    • Impetigo until 24 hours after treatment
    • Strep throat until 24 hours after treatment
    • Head lice until 24 hours after treatment and all nits are removed
    • Ringworm until 24 hours after treatment
    • Scabies until 24 hours after treatment
    • Chickenpox, until all lesions have dried and crusted (usually one week)
    • Peruses (Whooping Cough) until 5 days of appropriate antibiotics
    • Hepatitis A virus until 1 week after onset of illness, after immune globulin is administered We ask that for your child"s comfort and to reduce the risk of contagious diseases from spreading to other children, your child to be picked up within 1 hour of notification. Children need to remain home for 24 hours without symptoms before returning to school. In the case of a (suspected) contagious disease or continuing symptoms, a doctor’s note may be required before returning. Please keep in mind that a child who is unable to go out and play is too ill to be in school. This includes all allergies that will limit the child"s ability to participate in outdoor activities. We will notify parents to pick up children if they become too ill to work or if their health is jeopardizing the health of others. Your child will be separated from his/her classmates and kept as comfortable as possible until your arrival. An incident report will be written, filed, and sent home with the child.

If it is discovered that a child is unaccounted for then a full search of school and it’s immediate surroundings will take place. On no account will any other children be left unsupervised at any time. If after a thorough search it proves unsuccessful in establishing the whereabouts of a child, the emergency services the parent/guardian will be contacted by the Director. • MEDICAL EMERGENCIES

    Injury
Although supervision is constantly given, GPA staff cannot be by the child’s side at all times to prevent falls, tripping, bumps, blows from the other children, etc. If the child is injured in a non-threatening way, GPA staff will assess the child and provide necessary first aid. Nutrition
Breakfast, lunch, and snack are provided at Global Purpose Academy. We believe good meals are critical to a child's health and development. Therefore, we provide a well-balanced nutritional meal. Our menu is posted in the classroom and on our website. Please note that sweets and foods containing lots of sugar will not be allowed. If you provide lunch please make sure that all lunch boxes, bags and containers are labeled and you provide a well-balanced meal. All meals must meet the USDA guidelines. (GPA has a posting of the USDA guidelines on the Parent Information Bulleting Board). GPA will also provide the USDA guidelines to parents in their child’s enrollment package. We suggest that you use icepacks or frozen juice boxes to keep food cool. Please do not pack food that requires use of the microwave or oven. If your child has special dietary requirements then you are responsible for those special dietary needs and supply it to the school to supplement the meal and snack provided by us.  Each morning and afternoon, children are given a healthy snack. School snacks may consist of:Fruit (apples, bananas, oranges, etc.), assorted crackers (cheez itz, goldfish, graham, animal, etc.), raisins, pretzels, juice (100%), and 2% milk

Your child may also bring their favorite blanket and/or pillow. The sleep mats / blankets / pillows should be brought in on Mondays and taken home on Fridays. Please label each item with your child"s full name. We will take all precautionary methods to ensure that all children"s belongings are well cared for; however, the school is not responsible for loss or damage to those belongings.

It is to be noted that the playground is an extension of our school program. As children walk from the classroom to the playground they will be escorted by two staff persons and required to walk in a single file line. One staff person will be at the front of the line and the other at the back of the line. To maintain safety and fun play, children will be taught the rules of the playground (respect for others, take turns, no teasing or bullying and absolutely no pushing, hitting or kicking). In order for your child to enjoy participation in the program, please have him/her prepared for the weather. State regulatory laws require that all children are to spend at least 30 to 45 minutes twice a day outside.

    Bullying
Global Purpose Academy is committed to providing all students with a safe and civil environment, and will not tolerate any form of bullying at any school activity. Bullying shall mean any written, electronic, verbal, physical, or social act that willfully harms another. Aggravated bullying shall mean willful harm motivated by race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, mental disability, physical disability, appearance, or socioeconomic status. Staff, faculty, and volunteers who observe an act of bullying are expected to take immediate, appropriate steps to intervene. If the staff member or volunteer believes his or her intervention has not resolved the matter, he or she shall report it to the Director and document the incident in writing. The Director will inform the parent or guardian of any student who was observed as a victim or perpetrator of bullying. Depending on the frequency and severity of the conduct, intervention, counseling, correction, discipline, or referral to law enforcement will be used to remedy the impact on the victim and change the perpetrator’s behavior.

    Discipline
At Global Purpose Academy our goal is to address the whole child. In obtaining this goal we strive to encourage self-discipline. The child's classroom experience allows him to make choices based upon their interest and their knowledge concerning the available work. Guidelines are set before the children the first day they attend school. They are shown what is acceptable and what is not. We are a child-centered school where the child is highly prioritized. If situations occur that requires the intervention of staff, we will use several techniques to handle problems as they arise. Redirection is the most common method of intervention. Children will be removed from the situation where conflict has occurred and are given other activities or work to do that will redirect those energies in a more positive direction. Should an extreme situation occur where redirection is not effective, staff will use a time for self-reflection method that allows a child to take a few minutes (one minute per age of child) to calm down and stabilize emotions before returning to the group. Staff will use this time to assist the child in sorting out those emotions and feelings that caused the disruption in the first place. At no point is Corporal Punishment acceptable at Global Purpose Academy. We realize that on rare occasions a child's behavior may warrant the need to find a more suitable school setting. We will assist the family in finding an appropriate setting that will suit their child's needs.

    Actions/consequences
     • A child appears to be a danger to him/herself, other children attending the school, faculty or anyone else at the school

    FAMILY/PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
Family involvement is an all-purpose term that encompasses parent groups and committees, volunteering, family education, and special events. We believe the key to family involvement is giving families a variety of ways to be involved in the life of the school. Parents plan an integral role in the success of their child, therefore we require parents to be actively involved in their child’s education at school and home.  The following are some of the many ways you can be involved:
     • The school has an open-door policy that encourages you to call or visit at any time.
    • Participate in parent advisory meetings, curriculum nights, and a confidential annual survey to allow you to rate and comment on all aspects of the school.

Also, the Director will post a monthly news / events on the school website. The website will include the current topics of study, activities, special events and pertinent notices.

    Volunteers
As parents it is extremely important that your child sees and knows how you partner with the school (in the classroom, school activities, field trips & events). Your time, talents and/or treasures will benefit your child in so many ways. Your contributions help to bridge the gap between home and school. It gives your child a sense of pride, purpose and contributes to their self-esteem. All volunteers are required to do a Live Scan background fingerprint check at their own cost.
