  • COMPETITION  GUIDELINES

    ELIGIBILITY

    -Student in grades 9-12 as of Entry Deadline date Saturday, October 31, 2026
    -Legal resident in the State of Texas
    -Currently studying with a private teacher
    -May enter only one division
    -Former Grand Prize winners ineligible 
    -Former First Place winners ineligible to compete in same division
    -All entries must be made online 
    -Submit a five-minute audio excerpt of entry concerto uploaded via MP3 or WMA 
    -No videos accepted
    -No audio excerpts containing spoken words is accepted

     

    MUSIC & LIVE AUDITION
    -One movement of a STANDARD CONCERTO written for the instrument performed from memory with piano accompanist.

    -FIRST PLACE division winners compete in final round for the Grand Prize.

    -Contestants are responsible for engaging and compensating an accompanist for the competition

    -Contestant and accompanist must both be present for annoumcement of finals at 3:00 p.m.

    Winds/Brass Division

    JUDGES' DECISIONS ARE FINAL! To avoid potential familiarity with any contestant, judges are from out of state.

                              All  information  subject  to change.

  • AWARDS

    FIRST, SECOND  and THIRD PLACE  cash  awards  will  be  given   in each of the three instrument divisions (piano, strings, winds/brasses), contingent  on the  judges'  decisions  as follows:

     

    ·        First Place           $750

    ·        Second  Place     $400

    ·        Third Place         $200

    FIRST, SECOND,  and  THIRD  PLACE  winners  receive  cash  awards  at the conclusion  of the  Grand  Prize  Final Round.

     

    GRAND PRIZE WINNER

    One Grand Prize winner will be selected from the First Place winners.  

  • ENTRY APPLICATION

    Entry fee is non refundable.

    Application must be filled out and paid for on-line.

  • Please note that your Piano Accompanist* must be on time on January 9, for your scheduled audition, for any call-backs, and for the final round, should that be necessary. If not, this will result in forfeiture of performance.

    *Should you need the name of an accompanist, a list of possible accompanists for you to contact is available on request.

  • I certify that I am a legal resident in the State of Texas, am currently enrolled  in grades 9 – 12, and currently studying with a private teacher. I agree to furnish any information as required by the IRS.

    I understand that the application form including music file, signature file, and non-refundable $100.00 application fee must be transmitted no later than Saturday, October 31, 2026, 11:59PM. This deadline is firm. I agree to submit a five minute excerpt of my chosen concerto to be uploaded with this application via MP3 or WMA format. 

    I agree not to hold TASO or any individual or organization associated in any manner with the Juanita Miller Concerto Competition liable for any misfortune, accident, injury or death that may occur to me or to others, even if caused or allegedly caused by their own negligence.

    All awards in the three instrument divisions will be contingent on the judges'  decisions. I agree to accept the decision of the judges as final.

    Please note that your accompanist* must be on time on January 9, for the audition, call backs, and final round, if necessary. If not, this will result in forfeiture of performance.

    I certify that the information that I have given is correct, that I have read and understand the guidelines of the competition as stated in this application, and that I will abide by them as stated.

  • About Juanita Miller
    Mrs. Miller was a resident of Dallas for nearly 60 years and was actively involved in community affairs and civic activities, particularly pertaining to the arts. She was a founding board member and first president of the Texas Association for Symphony Orchestras (TASO.) Mrs. Miller had been president of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League and was the recipient of many distinguished awards for her exceptional contributions to the arts. She and her husband, Henry S. Miller, provided the initial Juanita Miller underwriting and subsequent gifts to fund this youth competition which now bears her name to honor her dedication and devotion to music.
