- Online learning can be a valuable experience. A student may feel more comfortable learning on his or her own, a course of interest may not be offered at school, or a time conflict may exist. Taking on online course may be more challenging for time management and therefore it is recommended to limit the number of online classes a student takes during a semester.
- We offer two programs at HomeConnection: Oak Harbor Virtual Learning (OHVL) and Apex. Apex is limited with Mr. Evans permission only. OHVL has a specific start date and end date and assignment due dates. OHVL typically starts classes prior to the HomeConnection start date.
- Once enrolled, the student is expected to finish the online course. These courses cost over $300 each. If a student drops mid-semester, their future participation in online learning may be withdrawn and they will be charged the full amount of the class.
- A course will be created in Wings for all online classes. This course is created by HomeConnection staff who will also complete monthly progress reviews based on documented information from OHVL certificated staff or Apex progress.
- The online teacher will submit monthly satisfactory or unsatisfactory progress.
- Some courses have weekly assignment due dates. It is the student’s responsibility to meet these expectations.
- Parents/Students and advisors should communicate regularly about the progress of online classes. If a student does not show sufficient monthly progress, they will receive an unsatisfactory (“N”) progress for that month. An intervention plan with the OHVL teachers will be developed for all monthly unsatisfactory progress.
- High school courses must be taken for credit, which means, after the enrollment period, the student needs to complete the course. If a course is dropped after the enrollment period, the student transcript may be marked with an "F" unless it’s replaced with an equivalent course.
- 7th and 8th grade students will receive credit for high school level classes unless parents choose to opt-out of the credit. (see your advisor)
- Each course requires the completion of the work required to earn credit based on the course description. The time commitment for an online class is approximately one (1) hour per day or five (5) hours per week
Typing my name below is my electronic signature and I agree to follow these expectations and support my student taking online classes. We will put forth a good effort to meet all requirements of each online class.
