Thank you for your interest in volunteering for us! This form is designed to match interested people with the right volunteer opportunity.

Volunteers are vital to our organization so they must be reliable, mature and trustworthy. Volunteers must be 18 years old* and are expected to commit to help one evening a week. We understand that there will be conflicts from time to time, and as long as those are known in advance we can usually make accommodations. You will find that communication is very important within the general operation of our humane society.

Volunteers should come to us with a passion for cats and a genuine desire to help for the greater good of the community. If you are seeking to fulfill a short-term community service requirement we will try to make that work, but it may be on an as-needed basis (for special projects).

*If you are not yet 18 years old, you will need to volunteer with a parent or guardian, regardless of your ability and maturity level (sorry, it's for liability purposes!)

We are often in need of volunteer support for tasks like picking up donations, transporting cats and/or cat traps, and other field work. Do you have a driver's license and vehicle that you would be willing to use for this type of support?

Volunteer Waiver of Liability
1. During the course of my volunteer work, I will be participating in activities that will include constant or intermittent interaction with animals, both healthy and sick, socialized and feral. I understand that animals can be unpredictable and that certain risks are involved in working with animals, including but not limited to being bitten, scratched, tripped, and exposed to agents that may cause or aggravate allergies or disease.
2. During the course of my volunteer work, I may lift, carry, or move animals or objects, or otherwise engage in physical labor. I may be exposed to physical and chemical hazards inherent to animal care activities. I may encounter animals who are diseased, suffering, or in pain; or persons having views about animals that may differ from my own. I will disclose any relevant physical or psychological limitations I may have to MCHS staff before participating in any activity, and I will not exceed my limitations.
3. I agree to conduct myself in a safe, lawful, and nondisruptive manner while participating in activities of and for the McPherson County Humane Society. I will obey all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures that are made known to me. I acknowledge that MCHS has the right to revoke my volunteer privileges if any of these rules, regulations, policies, and procedures are not followed. I further acknowledge that MCHS has the right to choose where and how it will use my services in its sole discretion and may choose to refuse my services at any time for any or no reason.
4. I understand that I will not be compensated for my efforts or services on behalf of the McPherson County Humane Society. I understand that MCHS is a not-for-profit organization and appreciates the assistance of volunteers like me who are willing to perform varied tasks without the expectation of compensation.
5. I agree that neither I nor my family, nor my legal guardian, heir, or assignee, will sue or make a claim against the McPherson County Humane Society for any damage, injury, or death resulting from any act or omission by me or by the Humane Society, or by a Humane Society employee, agent, animal, or volunteer; whether it occurs by act of negligence, by physical condition of property, or by animal behavior. I am hereby releasing the McPherson County Humane Society from any and all claims or liabilities incurred by myself, my family or legal representative at any point in the future, for any injury, damage or death arising out of, or connected with my volunteer participation with the organization.
6. I understand that I am not an agent, employee, or contractor of the McPherson County Humane Society. I will refer all visitors or persons seeking to conduct any business with MCHS to a staff member or board member. I will not represent my personal views on any subject as indicative of the views or policies of MCHS.
7. I recognize that any and all information shared with me as part of my duties as a volunteer is confidential and shall not be divulged to unauthorized individuals, agencies, or organizations. I will not copy, transcribe, record, or memorize confidential information in any manner, nor disclose or use such information for any purpose other than for the limited purpose of providing the assigned services at the McPherson County Humane Society.
8. If I am under 18 years of age at the time of submission, my parent or legal guardian has completely reviewed this Agreement, understands and consents to its terms, and authorizes my participation. If I am at least 18 years old at the time of submission, I am legally competent to sign this Agreement.
