Hālau Holomoana is a youth maritime training program that immerses students in Hawaiian culture, double-hull canoe sailing, and traditional wayfinding. Students will also explore college and career opportunities in the maritime industry. The maritime industry can provide a livable wage while allowing the time and opportunity to give back to the commuinty to keep the culture thriving into the next generation.
Hālau Holomoana is an nine month intensive program that consists of 180 hours of instruction with maritime professionals, cultural practitioners, master navigators, retired kupuna, and companies within the maritime industry. The culminating experience is a ten day open ocean voyage and the commitment is critical and of the utmost importance. The open ocean voyage provides students the opportunity to practice the skills learned throughout the year, including non-instrument wayfinding.
