    Chinook Winds Program Funding Proposal

    2026
  • Please find below the Grant proposal form for the 2026 Mission and Service (M&S) grants for Ministries within our Chinook Winds Region. As we look forward to the new year, we are grateful for the opportunity to extend our support once again to the dedicated Ministries that play a vital role in our region.

    The funding we provide through the M&S Fund represents a significant commitment to the growth and sustainability of Ministry within the Chinook Winds Region. It is our goal to facilitate and enhance the important work you do. This funding is limited and I encourage you to embark on your grant application with an awareness of the financial constraints we are facing. It is our hope that you will tailor your submissions to projects and initiatives that align most closely with your ministry goals and those of the denomination, and that directly contribute to the advancement of your vision.

    Furthermore, some Ministries may have alternative resources at their disposal. If your organization is in such a fortunate position, we ask you to explore those avenues, thereby reserving M&S funds for Ministries that may have fewer options available to them. By making these thoughtful choices, we can collectively ensure that the limited resources are utilized where they are needed most.

    We appreciate your commitment to the work of the Chinook Winds Region, and we look forward to receiving your grant applications. We are so proud of the ministries of all types and sizes in our Region, and we remain committed to supporting you in every way possible.

    Should you have any questions or require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact our office. We thank you for your dedication.

    Blessings,

    Treena Duncan

    Chinook Winds Region is the governing body for The United Church of Canada working with communities of faith in the central and southern portions of Alberta. As stewards of United Church mission and ministry in our geographical area, we are called to support the work of communities of faith through ongoing dialogue, spiritual support, and governance support.  We are also called to help advance United Church mission and ministry through program planning, and through the wise stewardship of shared resources.

    This document is intended to be a tool by which local communities of faith and Chinook Winds Region can collaborate together in planning and implementing mission and ministry initiatives.  Our authorization flows from The Manual of The United Church of Canada, Sections C.2.1-C.2.4, as it may be revised from time to time.  The work we engage with communities of faith is further grounded in the following statements of purpose outlined in Manual Section C.2.4:

    “The regional council is responsible for encouraging and engaging in:

    a) joining our collective hearts, voices, and resources to witness to the gospel and vision of Jesus for a compassionate and just society, both in Canada and around the world;

    b) local, regional, national, and global initiatives and partnerships (community, ecumenical, and interfaith) for ministry, mission, and justice work;

    c) ministry with children, youth, and young adults;

    d) honouring and living into intercultural mission and ministry; and

    e) living in covenant with Mother Earth and All My Relations in the Earth community”

    Within this scope of missional purpose, there are a wide range of opportunities for communities of faith to partner with Chinook Winds Region to advance our work together.  Please review these statements of purpose as you consider your own local program and mission initiatives.

    Current funding priorities in Chinook Winds Region include, but are not limited to, First Third Ministries for Youth and Young Adults, Affirming Ministries, and Indigenous Ministries.

    Using this Proposal document, we will be able to understand together what you have in mind, how your group wants to implement its ideas, what outcomes you are seeking, and what kinds of resources you will need.
