ABOUT THE STUDENT CHALLENGE
The G4C Student Challenge is a national program that builds teacher capacity in game-based learning and invites students to design games about a social issue in their communities. The Challenge is supported by game jams, workshops, and mentorships held throughout the school year. Students are encouraged to enter their games into the Challenge competition in Spring 2020 for the opportunity to win prizes and career development experiences.
TEACHER & SCHOOL INFORMATION
Teachers must be 6th to 12th grade teachers in LAUSD schools. Experience in technology or game design is not a requirement. Applicants should demonstrate enthusiasm about learning new teaching methodologies and tools, be able to attend two days of PD (date/location TBD) and commit at least two hours per week to run a game design course at your school (starting in October 2019).
Please discuss this opportunity with your principal, and review the technology, time and space requirements to ensure the students will be able to participate fully.
All teachers who previously participated in the LA cohort are encouraged to continue their involvement in the G4C Student Challenge during the upcoming school year! Returning educators will be automatically accepted into the program and should indicate their status as a returning educator below. Educators who have already attended the 2-day PD are not required to participate in the full training again but are strongly encouraged to attend a half-day training so they are onboarded to the new Challenge themes and other program updates.
