ARTS EDUCATION CONFERENCE 2020:
CALL FOR PROPOSALS
(Practice Session & Art Making Session)
Description
In support of the continued collaborative work between teachers and arts education partners, Ingenuity and the CPS Department of Arts Education are excited to present this year's Arts Education Conference: Amplifying Essential Voices. We are thrilled to once again provide an opportunity to Chicago’s arts education sector to grow in new understanding, gain and share skills, and develop the vital relationships that allow our individual and shared work to flourish and thrive. Bringing together hundreds of arts educators and leaders from throughout the sector, the Arts Education Conference is a critical opportunity to inform, inspire, and learn from your colleagues and community.
Presentation Types
Proposals should fall into one of the following categories. (NOTE: If you wish to submit a 120-minute conference proposal, please use the Deep Dive Session proposal form.)
Practice Session
- 60 minutes of presentation and hands-on practice
- Explores a topic at a more introductory level
- Incorporates innovative arts educator skills, tools, resources and/or techniques
- Includes one or more interactive activities
- Includes take-home materials for use and reference after the conference
Art-Making Workshop
- 60-minute highly-interactive demonstration or experiential learning
- Is rooted in participation and active learning
- Covers techniques, skills, and processes in a specific art form or art forms
- Includes take-home materials for use and reference after the conference

Prioritization of Culture, Equity, and Inclusion
As a core value and central to the mission of the conference is a commitment to the prioritization of culture, equity, and inclusion (CEI). Through the three conference learning threads (Teaching & Learning, Partnerships & Sustainability, and Advocacy & Leadership) we will work to ensure that multiple voices, experiences, cultures, and perspectives are represented and amplified throughout all conference sessions. CEI should thus be clearly embedded within all conference proposals and should aim to address at least one of the following CEI elements through conference format/structure and/or content:

Who Should Submit a Proposal?
Teachers, administrators, arts partners, teaching artists, and others who work closely with Chicago Public Schools to develop and sustain quality art education should submit proposals. This is your chance to share best practices and inform and inspire teachers, colleagues, and other members of the Chicagoland arts community.
Target Session Participants
Presenters should consider their target participants and tailor session content accordingly. Sessions can be open to all conference attendees or geared towards a specific group or groups of participants, including:
- arts partners and teaching artists
- arts teachers and other classroom teachers
- school principals and administrators
Learning Objectives
Presenters should provide clearly defined learning objectivs that align with session activities and content. By the end of your session, what will participants:
- KNOW (facts, definitions)?
- UNDERSTAND (concepts, "big ideas")?
- DO (process, skills)?
Review Criteria
Ingenuity and the CPS Department of Arts Education will review all proposals. The criteria and scoring system below will guide the review of submissions.
SCORING:
1 = Does not meet criteria
2 = Meets criteria with some gaps or weaknesses
3 = Meets criteria
4 = Strongly meets criteria

Deadline for Submission
Proposals must be submitted by 5PM CST on Monday, February 3, 2020. Presenters will be notified of acceptance no later than Friday, February 28, 2020.
