Mission:
The Bishop of Manchester enjoys the privilege and the responsibility of being the chief shepherd and teacher of the Catholic Church in New Hampshire. The bishop is responsible for all Catholic parishes, schools and institutions in his Diocese. As a state leader, the bishop is also a source of guidance, support and assistance of every faith and background. He is someone to whom the poor can turn in their most desperate moments of need, regardless of their race, religion or ethnic background.
The Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund supports tax-exempt organizations that improve the quality of life and provide the basic essentials for individuals and families in New Hampshire, especially the poor and disadvantaged. These services include food, shelter, health, clothing and community.
Process:
The Fund is operated by a volunteer lay board of directors who make recommendations to the Bishop of Manchester for grants to any organization in New Hampshire whose mission is consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The Fund raises money through solicitation of individuals, businesses and philanthropic organizations. An annual accounting of funds raised and disbursements is available to donors by request.
The Allocation Committee meets on a quarterly basis and it will take up to six weeks for a grant request to be reviewed in full. A site visit and additional information may be required prior to a final determination.
All decisions will be communicated in writing to each applicant.
