  • 2019-2020 GIFT Leadership Institute Application

  • Course Description

    Do you ever wish for a completely new and energized approach to how your camp thinks about, talks about and engages in fundraising? Many organizations aspire to have a culture of philanthropy. Few ever achieve it. This JCamp 180 offering is designed to get your camp there.

    Expanding on many learning resources from our popular GIFT program and the current GIFT Leadership Institute pilot, this program will include JCamp 180 collaborators to co-deliver the curriculum. Ultimately, the GIFT Leadership Institute intends to prepare you for an organization-wide breakthrough to instill a powerful new culture. For this reason, camps enrolling in the GIFT Leadership Institute must commit to full participation by their Executive Director or Camp Director, the Board Chair or equivalent lay leader, and a development professional. Up to 5 individuals can be part of your team.

    Each camp in GIFT Leadership Institute will be asked to commit to a fee of $360 per participant to be in the course. If 100% your leadership team fully participates in the launch and completion of the course, and if they participate in 80% of the monthly calls at the conclusion of the program, an amount equal to your course fee will be awarded as a contribution to your camps scholarship fund. Meals and hotel fees in a spring retreat will be covered by JCamp180 and other travel expenses will be reimbursed according to our reimbursement policy.
     
    Two face to face meetings (the 2019 JCamp 180 conference and a spring retreat) are bookends for this 7-month program. 

    By applying for this program, you agree that the entire team in this application is available and willing to attend the JCamp 180 Annual Conference October 27-29, 2019 in Springfield, MA (see specific times below) and the spring retreat (days/location TBD).

    Participants will be expected to take part in the following sessions at the JCamp 180 Annual Conference October 27-29, 2019:

    Sunday, October 27,  9 - noon
    Monday, October 28, noon - 2 pm
    Tuesday, October 29, 9 am - 8 pm (partially off site)

  • Process for Applying

    In the GIFT Leadership Institute, camps will be working as a team of three or more individuals. We ask that you use this process of applying to start your partnership. You will notice that there are sections for each person to fill out. Please take the time to convene your team to discuss the application and then complete your individual parts. Upon submission, you will be contacted for an interview with your full team (applicants) and Laurie Herrick, course leader.

    Applications are due by September 13. Participants will be notified September 20.

    This and the next section are for additional participants in the GIFT Leadership Institute. In order for a camp to be accepted into GLI a minimum of three participants must apply. Additional individuals (up to 5 total participants) are welcome to be part of your application but will not influence your camps eligibility in any way. Decisions about additional individuals joining the course will be made separate from decisions about your camps participation.

  • 2019-2020 JTEC Application

  • JCamp 180 Training in Effective Communications (JTEC) is back for a 7th year! If your position at a JCamp 180-affiliated camp requires at least 25% of your time to be devoted to communications, you are eligible to apply for JTEC.

    Applications are due no later than September 13, 2019.We will be reviewing applications and contacting applicants over the next several weeks and will be in touch by September 20th to announce participants in the program.

    Please note: the course will start at the JCamp 180 Annual Conference October 27-29, 2019. JTEC participants will meet during lunch on Monday, October 28. The formal kickoff session for JTEC will then be held on the final day, Tuesday, October 29. Participants' managers at camp (Camp Director or Executive Director in most cases) will be required to take part in the Tuesday portion of JTEC at the conference; both the participant and their supervisor will be expected to attend the 2019 JCamp 180 Annual Conference through the final lunch (12:30 PM) on Tuesday, October 29.

    We will be notifying you as soon as possible and by September 20 at the latest so that if you are participating in the JTEC program, you will have adequate time to make travel arrangements consistent with this JTEC kick-off session. Participation in the kick-off session at the conference is a prerequisite to participation in the program.   • Buy-in At Camp

    For JTEC to be successful, camp leadership (both professional staff and Board/Camp Committee) must be committed to your participation in JTEC and implementing your work at camp. These questions help us ensure you will have sufficient support to take full advantage of the program.

  • Thank you for your interest in the JCamp 180 Data2Donors program.

    Unlike our other professional development programs, Data2Donor is self-service - you'll take part in the program on a schedule that works for your camp's resources and campaign schedule.

    Your camp is eligible to apply for this program if your organization has:

    1) Demonstrated institutional commitment to increasing alumni outreach and fundraising

    2) A donor database other than Excel

    3) A specific fundraising campaign either in process or being planned

    4) Volunteers willing to help

    5) The availability of someone at camp to be the main contact for the data cleanup/enhancement portion of Data2Donors, and the availability of someone involved in Development at camp to be the main contact for the prospect identification and qualifying portion of Data2Donors.

  • Part 2: Readiness for Major Donor Fundraising

    One of the goals of Data2Donors is to provide you with a systematic approach to major donor prospect research and to help you prepare a selected list of qualified prospects. Our program will pay for your donor list to be run through WealthEngine, merge the findings into your database, and help you to create a ready-to-use qualified major donor prospect list to share with key volunteers. We are seeking camps that will be ready to put this list to work right away by engaging in major donor fundraising. These questions are intended to help us identify your camp’s readiness and possible areas where you may need additional help.

  • Part 3: Readiness for Improved Alumni Outreach

    Another goal of Data2Donors is to provide you with a systematic approach to finding lost alumni and increasing your capacity for greater alumni outreach. Part of this program will guide you through steps to increase the number of good alumni and camp family names and contact information in your donor database. Our program will pay for your donor list to be run through NCOA and AlumniFinder, and then merge the results back into your database. Before that process you will need to add in missing names, clean-up your database, and locate as many updated contacts as possible. We’ll ask you to gather a diverse group of volunteers to specifically help you identify and reconnect with lost alumni. We are seeking camps that will put in the time and effort to increase the total number of good records in their databases. These questions are intended to help us identify your camp’s readiness and possible areas where you may need additional help.

  • Part 4: Readiness for Improved Donor Database

    One of the final goals of Data2Donors is to expose you to best practices in nonprofit donor database use, maintenance, and management. Throughout this program we will assign tasks and homework to help improve the quality and functionality of your database system and improve your organization’s ability to put the data to work for increased fundraising. This work will require a little or a lot of time depending on the current state of your organization’s database.We are seeking camps that will put in the time and effort into improving their databases. These questions are intended to help us identify your camp’s readiness and possible areas where you may need additional help.

    For Data2Donors to be highly successful, the camp board and staff leadership should demonstrate a commitment to major donor fundraising and increased alumni outreach. These questions help us ensure you will have sufficient support to take full advantage of the program.

    Upon submission of this application, you will be contacted to schedule a 20-30 minute follow up phone conversation with Natasha Dresner, JCamp 180 Mentor and LEAP Director. 

    For the purposes of this application, the word Board is used to describe a camp’s lay leadership group.  Please substitute the word Board for committee or commission if applicable for your camp.
