Title: Highest Awards Committee Member

Term: Two-years suggested, with annual appointment
Purpose: The Highest Award Committee Members help Girl Scouts in grades 6-12 through the process of earning Silver and/or Gold Awards by providing guidance, support, and mentorship. These are the highest awards available to Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors, and have a strong emphasis on leadership, skill building, relationship building, and community impact. Committee members can serve as a Facilitator and/or Mentor to Girl Scouts in pursuit of the Silver or Gold Awards, and support other volunteer committee members in this endeavor.
Key Responsibilities
- Mentors: Mentors support Senior and Ambassador (9th - 12th grade) Girl Scouts in their pursuit of the Gold Award by conducting an initial meeting once a proposal is submitted, working with the Girl Scout to develop a project that meets the Gold Award Guidelines, approving the proposal, staying in contact throughout the process, and reviewing and approving the final report.
- Facilitators: Facilitators support Cadette, Senior and Ambassador (6th - 12th grade) Girl Scouts in their pursuit of the Silver or Gold Award by co-facilitating the training workshops that are required before a Girl Scout starts working towards either award.
- Support other committee members through regular monthly meetings and communicate regularly with council staff and Girl Scouts when necessary.
- Remain current about all aspects of Girl Scout Highest Award requirements by attending all required training.
- Create enthusiasm around Highest Awards and support Girl Scouts in successfully completing their projects and earning a Highest Award whenever possible.
- Support River Valleys’ values of diversity, equity, inclusion, access and racial justice and act as a representative for Girl Scouts River Valleys.
- Adhere to Safety Activity Checkpoints.

Girl Scouts River Valleys’ Responsibilities
- Provide position training and resources required to guide Girl Scouts through projects or facilitate trainings.
- Provide committee members with Girl Scouts’ Gold Award project proposals and final reports when necessary.
- Offer ongoing support and assistance from Highest Awards Program Coordinator or related Program staff.
Qualifications
- Must be a registered member of Girl Scouts River Valleys, be at least 18 years old and pass a background check.
- Subscribes to the principles of Girl Scouts of the USA and commits to speaking and acting in a manner consistent with the Girl Scout Mission, Promise, Law and Values.
- Displays welcoming and inclusive behavior toward people of all ages, races, religions, cultures, abilities, sexual orientation, gender, educational and economic backgrounds.
- Has interest and experience working with youth ages 11-18.
- Possesses strong attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to follow through on tasks.
- Has reliable internet access and a device for accessing email, creating and sharing online files, and video calling.
