    Title: Volunteer Recognition Award Committee Member

    Purpose: The Volunteer Recognition Award Committee member is responsible for evaluating and approving Girl Scouts River Valleys adult awards. The committee member shall perform key tasks in reviewing awards, deliberating on approval of the award, and promotion of the awards to volunteers and members.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Participate in identifying, interviewing and selecting committee members.
    2. Ability to communicate and deliberate fairly and without bias.
    3. Adhere to Volunteer Recognition guidelines per GSUSA and Girl Scouts River Valleys requirements.
    4. Facilitate group deliberation on awards requiring Girl Scouts River Valleys’ Board approval.
    5. Approve selected recipients for Council awards.

    Girl Scouts River Valleys’ Responsibilities

    1. Provide position training and resources to guide girls through projects.
    2. Provide committee members with girls’ applications/project proposal.
    3. Offer ongoing support and assistance from Program Coordinator.

    Qualifications

    1. Must become a registered member of GSUSA, be at least 18 years old and pass a background check.
    2. Adhere to and follow all GSUSA and Girl Scouts River Valleys policies, standards and procedures.

    Title: Scholarship Committee Member

    Term: Two-year term with opportunity to be reappointed consecutively once (4 consecutive years maximum)
    Purpose: The Scholarship Committee members are responsible for evaluating and awarding Girl Scouts River Valleys and Legacy Council Scholarships to Girl Scouts River Valleys girls. The Committee shall perform key tasks in determining awards, process of application, promotion of scholarship opportunities and volunteer at key events to promote Girl Scout programming.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Attend and participate in all required meeting and trainings
    2. Evaluate scholarship applications and utilize the scholarship award process to determine awardees
    3. Provide scholarship candidate scoring within two weeks of receiving the documentation (spring)
    4. Attend annual scholarship award review meeting
    5. Attend volunteer event specific to highlighting scholarship programs for girls
    6. Assist in evaluation of scholarship application process, promotion and award timeline
    7. Attend annual cultivation event with scholarship awardees
    8. Provide recommendations based on the best interests of the entire Girl Scouts River Valleys’ jurisdiction
    9. Support and promote The Girl Scout Leadership Experience in relationship to your volunteer position

    Title: Day Camp Advisory Committee Member

    Supervisor: Senior Manager of Program Resources
    Term: Two-year term with options to reapply
    Purpose: Day Camp Advisory Committee members advise staff on current and proposed procedures, risk management practices, materials, and communication for volunteer-led day camps.  Applications for new members are accepted once per year in the fall. The time commitment for this position is an average of 2-4 hours per month October through May, with some months requiring more or less time, depending on committee needs and interests.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Participate in scheduled committee meetings and trainings. The committee will meet monthly October through May (alternating Monday and Tuesday evenings). A day camp training and networking event is tentatively scheduled for Friday, February 7, 2020.
    2. Provide timely feedback on current and proposed day camp support activities and procedures, resources, and communication plans, as requested.
    3. Provide recommendations based on the best interests of the entire Girl Scouts River Valleys’ jurisdiction.
    4. Support and promote The Girl Scout Leadership Experience in relationship to your volunteer position.
    5. Follow all GSUSA and Girl Scouts River Valley’s policies, standards, and procedures.
    6. Be in good standing with Girl Scouts River Valleys.

    Girl Scouts River Valleys’ Responsibilities

    Title: Highest Awards Committee Member

    Term: Two-years suggested, with annual appointment
    Purpose: The Highest Award Committee Members help Girl Scouts in grades 6-12 through the process of earning Silver and/or Gold Awards by providing guidance, support, and mentorship. These are the highest awards available to Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors, and have a strong emphasis on leadership, skill building, relationship building, and community impact. Committee members can serve as a Facilitator and/or Mentor to Girl Scouts in pursuit of the Silver or Gold Awards, and support other volunteer committee members in this endeavor.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Mentors: Mentors support Senior and Ambassador (9th - 12th grade) Girl Scouts in their pursuit of the Gold Award by conducting an initial meeting once a proposal is submitted, working with the Girl Scout to develop a project that meets the Gold Award Guidelines, approving the proposal, staying in contact throughout the process, and reviewing and approving the final report. 
    2. Facilitators: Facilitators support Cadette, Senior and Ambassador (6th - 12th grade) Girl Scouts in their pursuit of the Silver or Gold Award by co-facilitating the training workshops that are required before a Girl Scout starts working towards either award.
    3. Support other committee members through regular monthly meetings and communicate regularly with council staff and Girl Scouts when necessary.
    4. Remain current about all aspects of Girl Scout Highest Award requirements by attending all required training.
    5. Create enthusiasm around Highest Awards and support Girl Scouts in successfully completing their projects and earning a Highest Award whenever possible.
    6. Support River Valleys’ values of diversity, equity, inclusion, access and racial justice and act as a representative for Girl Scouts River Valleys.
    7. Adhere to Safety Activity Checkpoints.
    8. Practice the Principles of Inclusiveness: Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment for Girl Scouts and adults.     • Has interest and experience working with youth ages 11-18.
    • Possesses strong attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to follow through on tasks.
    • Has reliable internet access and a device for accessing email, creating and sharing online files, and video calling.

    Purpose: The Outdoor Advisory Committee members provide guidance and support to the outdoor champions in growing their knowledge of outdoor skills and resources. This includes providing a platform for the outdoor champions to network with each other. The committee is comprised of current or past outdoor champions. We accept applications on a rolling basis.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Attend and participate in all required meeting and trainings.
    2. Provide timely feedback on current and proposed initiatives, procedures, resources, and communication plans, as requested.
    3. Provide recommendations based on the best interests of the entire Girl Scouts River Valleys’ jurisdiction.
    4. Support and promote The Girl Scout Leadership Experience in relationship to your volunteer position.
    5. Follow all GSUSA and Girl Scouts River Valley’s policies, standards, and procedures.

    Title: Product Program Advisory Committee Member
    Appointed by: Product Program Advisory Committee
    Supervisor: Director of Product Program
    Term: Two years; may not serve more than two consecutive terms unless otherwise appointed
    Purpose: Advise council product program staff on current and proposed program procedures, activities, materials, and communications.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Participate in scheduled committee meetings. Committee will meet quarterly or as needed. Exact dates are provided each September for the coming year.
    2. Attend at least one Community Cookie volunteer training event each year and at least three Product Program Advisory Committee meetings each year.
    3. Provide support and encourage Communities to participate in the Cookie Program and Fall FUNDraiser (aka Fall Product Program).
    4. Provide current information on upcoming events and activities through newsletters, meetings, and online resources.

    Girl Scouts River Valleys’ Responsibilities

    Title: Service Unit Manager Mentor
    Appointed by: Girl Scouts River Valleys
    Supervisor: Service Unit Manager Mentor Committee
    Term: Up to five years of consecutive one-year terms with annual appointments
    Purpose: To provide guidance and support to volunteers serving in the service unit manager role to lend to the success and effectiveness of the service unit.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Guide and support the development of newly appointed service unit managers to whom you’ve been assigned, and those service unit managers requesting continued support during their term.
    2. Be a resource for information, best practices and contacts that service unit managers need to effectively perform their duties.
    3. Communicate regularly and positively with service unit managers to whom you’ve been assigned, along with maintaining communication with the Service Unit Manager Mentor Committee and Girl Scouts River Valleys to provide status updates and/or share concerns related to the service unit managers you support.
    4. Remain informed about and comply with the most current policies, procedures, and guidelines of Girl Scouts River Valleys and GSUSA, and ensure SUMs are aware of and are receiving information to keep them informed on up-to-date policies, procedures, and standards.
    5. Read e-communications and Girl Scouts River Valleys e-newsletters so that you may best support the service unit mangers to whom you’ve been assigned.
    6. Work with service unit managers to ensure the Girl Scout mission, program goals, and diversity vision is reflected in service unit communication and activities.
    7. Help to facilitate positive and effective communication with service unit managers and their service unit team.
    8. Assist service unit managers in building skills and techniques related to conflict resolution.
    9. Work with service unit managers to ensure they involve service unit team members in development and assessment of service unit delivery plans.
    10. Help service unit managers to understand the need to coach, motivate, and recognize service unit volunteers.
    11. Encourage meetings/opportunities for service unit managers to network and exchange information as may be beneficial to create a sharing service unit manager community.

    Qualifications
