  • Application for the Traditional Pre-Licensure BSN Program

    Please fill out carefully and furnish complete information to avoid a processing delay. Applications are available from October 1, 2025, through March 15, 2026.

  • Students interested in majoring in Nursing must meet with their nursing advisor during their freshman year and complete the application to the Nursing Program in the fall-spring of their sophomore year.

  • ** Please note that interested applicants must be admitted to Mars Hill University before eligible to apply to the Judge-McRae School of Nursing Pre-Licensure BSN Program. Note that admission to the university does not guarantee acceptance in to the Pre-Licensure BSN Program.

  • Application Checklist:

    Prior to submitting this application, please review the following items to ensure that your application is complete and eligible for consideration.

    1. I have at least a GPA of 3.0 overall in post-secondary work and at least a 2.0 overall GPA in natural science courses. 
    2. I have been accepted to Mars Hill University and I have a MHU Student ID number.
    3. If accepted - I understand that prior to my first day of class in the nursing program, I would:  
      • Provide as an attachment to this application an unofficial transcript from all previous institutions attended.
      • Be listed in NC as Nursing Assistant I (NAI).
      • Be subject to a criminal background check for the past 7 years at my own expense.
      • Provide MHU with a current BLS (CPR card) by an American Heart Association Healthcare Provider.
      • Provide a copy of the MHU Medical Form and current immunizations (required medical forms will be provided at MHU nursing orientation).
      • Liability insurance is provided for Nursing Students through the MHU nursing fee.
    4. I understand that, if accepted into the Judge-McRae School of Nursing, additional costs may arise such as but not limited to: Liability Insurance, Background Checks and Drug Tests, Uniforms, Equipment, etc., and that all admission requirements must be met by the junior fall semester of entry into the program.
    5. I understand if I am provisionally invited into the Judge-McRae School of Nursing for the pre-licensure BSN program:
      • I will be required to confirm my acceptance of the invitation and seat in the class.
      • I understand travel will be involved and that some classes/clinical may be scheduled during evening hours or weekends.
      • I understand that if my cumulative or natural science GPA falls below the required minimum for admission into the program, my provisional acceptance will be rescinded.
      • Must take the TEAS exam and score 65 or higher before the end of my sophomore year.
      • I understand that I must attend the mandatory orientation in the spring.
      • In addition, my health form must be submitted by the date specified in the orientation by the Director of Nursing.
      • I understand that if the conditions listed above are not met by the specific deadlines my provisional invitation and space in the Nursing Program will be forfeited.

In addition, you must attach a short narrative outlining your experiences within them. You are also welcome to attach written references from any previous work experience supervisors.

    One reference letter (from a non-science faculty member) is required to complete your application to the Judge-McRae School of Nursing.

    Reference letters may be hand delivered in a sealed envelope to the nursing administrative assistant or emailed directly to JMSON@mhu.edu.

    *Emailed letters of reference must be written on letterhead or come from a business email account. Letters will not be accepted from a personal email account.

  • The baccalaureate degree in nursing at Mars Hill University (Judge-McRae School of Nursing) is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (www.ccneaccreditation.org).

    The Nurse Licensure Compact allows for registered nurses (RNs) to have one multistate license, with the privilege to practice in their home state and other NLC states.  Because North Carolina is a participating state, nurses meeting the requirements for licensure in NC may also practice in the states listed below.

     

    Contact the licensing board in your state of residence (if not North Carolina) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education for information about licensing in your state.
