CHARMS
Charms is our Band's free Cloud-Based classroom. Every child MUST use their Charms account to find forms, see the calendar, and more.
Parents are simply asked to update their email address to receive all communication updates.
Please update the account by following the directions on the Willard Band website.
SUPPLIES
Supplies for your child are listed on the band website. Go to the Willard Band website for a specific list for your grade level and instrument.

GRADING
Grades in band class are weighted in the following way:
Summative Assessments: 55% (This includes playing tests and concert performances)
Coursework: 35% (This includes rehearsal etiquette, extra-curricular rehearsal and concert attendance, practice, and any other graded assessments/projects)
Homework: 10% (This includes SmartMusic Assignments and any other designated assignments)
Retakes may be taken for grades lower than 80%, but a cap of 80% may be implemented on the retake grade. Retakes on any performance assessments may only be taken IF THE STUDENT HAS COMPLETED ALL HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS FOR THAT QUARTER.
Any retakes or late work (this includes make-up assignments, SmartMusic assignments, playing tests, etc.) must be submitted by the close of business on the listed dates below:
- Quarter 1: October 25, 2019
- Quarter 2: January 10, 2020
- Quarter 3: March 19, 2020
- Quarter 4: June 3, 2020
PRIVATE LESSONS
Private lessons are not required, but are strongly encouraged. Private lessons are not remedial, but instead help students at any level to progress more rapidly on their instrument than classroom instruction alone. Private lessons are not school affiliated. See our list of private instructors here.
INSTRUMENT STORAGE
Students storing instruments should keep them in their assigned spaces in the storage areas or in lockers while in school. INSTRUMENTS MAY NOT BE LEFT IN THE STORAGE AREAS OVERNIGHT! Students who fail to take it home on a frequent basis cannot receive credit for practicing and also may lose their privilege to use the storage area.
