“Exploring Ways for your Organization to Engage Youth in the Outdoors” – an experiential professional development workshop

The Nova Scotia Outdoor Network (NSON) is pleased to offer this professional development workshop as a pre-conference opportunity leading into this years Recreation Nova Scotia Conference. In addition, the NSON Leadership Team will be hosting a networking opportunity at lunch, providing healthy snacks and dessert, along with a guided walk within the park.

Length: Full Day (10:00am - 4:30pm)
Location: Victoria Park, Truro
Target Audience: This workshop is aimed at Municipal Rec Staff, Library Staff, Teachers, Students, and those working or volunteering in the Sport/Recreation/Physical Activity sector.
Description: If you are looking to increase your awareness of youth engagement and experiential learning in an outdoor setting than this is the workshop for you! Join HeartWood Centre for Community Youth Development for a one day workshop that will allow you to gain skills and confidence to connect youth (ages 12-18+) to the outdoors. Through a series of games, initiatives, discussions and theory you will experience youth engagement in the outdoors, as well as discuss opportunities for your organization or communities to incorporate more outdoor experiences for youth.
What to bring: Be prepared and bring your lunch and snacks to enjoy onsite, a camping chair, appropriate clothing for being outside all day, outdoor footwear, water/water bottle, hat, note pad and pen if you would like to take notes.
NOTE: If Children are in attendance they must be accompanied by an adult and notice should be provided to the Facilitators in advance.
This session will take place based on a minimum number of people registering. If we don’t reach the minimum number in advance of the pre-conference some sessions may change.
