At The Y, we believe in the power of inspired young people. The Y NSW Youth Parliament is the articulation of our belief. The Y NSW Youth Parliament is an a-political empowerment and advocacy program that provides a platform for young people to have their voices heard through legislative debate and decision making. Participants create bills with their peers, then head to NSW Parliament House to debate these bills in front of real MPs.
This program is for young people in years 10-12 or age equivalent (15-18 years of age).
Key dates*:
- Acceptance Emails: Monday 29th March 2021
- Online Introduction to Youth Parliament: 26 April 2021
- Residential Camp: 3rd - 10th July 2021
*You must be able to committ to Online introduction and camp to participate.
The Y NSW absorbs many of the costs associated with the program in an attempt to make it as accessible as possible. There is however, a fee still associated. If you are unable to pay for the program, The Y staff can support you to find financial assistance or can work out a payment plan.
The 2021 program fee is $600 required before Online Introduction, 26 April.
The Y NSW is unable to refund participants once the program has commenced. Considerations may be made in certain situations.
Applicants will be assessed against a number of criteria, including:
- Electorate representation;
- Diversity representation;
- School representation;
- Passion for making a change.
