ERGONOMICS
Ergonomics focuses on the physical and physiological design of the work system to fit human beings.
Ergonomics includes the design of the job duties, the work station (e.g., desk, chair, task lighting, sit/stand station, etc.), technologies (e.g., computer, tools, lab equipment), the work environment (e.g., HVAC, sound levels, odors, bathroom access, outdoor conditions, sun exposure, etc.) and the organization's processes and procedures.
Does this job expose people to ergonomic risks like:
- holding static postures (e.g., sitting a workstation or standing at a bench) for long periods of time
- repetitive motions (e.g, typing, data entry, etc.)
- awkward postures (e.g., holding arms at shoulder height, twisting)
- lifting heavy loads
- long periods of exerting force (e.g., gripping a tool) or vibration - intense sensory exposures (e.g., extreme temperatures, very bright or dimly lit lighting, loud sounds)
- shift work (i.e., evening or night time shifts, rotating shifts, multiple shifts in a row)
