The National Transportation Safety Board has issued warnings about 15 passenger vans. They can lose control in emergency handling situations more than other vehicles when full. We have evaluated other transportation alternatives and none meets our needs. We have done several things to address the situation: 1) We try not to put 15 people in the van. 2) We put as little weight on top as possible (only ski bags in aerodynamic carrier boxes). 3) Van drivers are limited in number and have been informed of safety issues. 4) We pay our Head Coach, the primary Driver, a year-end bonus for safe driving. 5) We have studded winter tires. 6) Drivers remind kids to put on seat belts. 7) We have driven this type of vehicles for many years on these same roads and never had an accident. All this said, the van travels winter conditions on mountain roads on a regular basis. If you do not feel comfortable with the safety of the van, do not put your kids on it.
