  • Qualifications/Duties and Responsibilities

  • How do I qualify to be an election worker? 

    • Be a U.S. citizen who is registered to vote in Alachua County.
    • Be able to speak, read and write the English language. 
    • Not be a candidate or an immediate family member of a candidate.
    • Have transportation to the polling place and election worker training.
    • Be able to physically work from before 6 a.m. until after polls close at 7 p.m. 

    What are the duties and responsibilities of an election worker? 

    • To administer the election process fairly and according to the law.
    • To open, set up and close the polls. 
    • To ensure only qualified voters are permitted to vote. 
    • To give assistance when requested by the voter. 
    • To attend election worker trainings.

    If I am asked to work an election, where would I work? 

    The Supervisor of Elections will attempt to place you in your precinct's polling place. However, to meet the needs of the election, you may be asked to work in a polling place other than your own.

    Election workers are required to work from before 6 a.m. until after the polls close at 7 p.m. and must have transportation to the polling place and election worker training.
  • Please note: Once you submit this application and return the W4 tax form that will be mailed to you, you will become part of the pool of prospective election workers. Your name will remain active until you request that it be removed. Not all election workers work every election. The number of election workers for each election is determined by the size of the election and the expected turnout. Election workers are chosen to work a specific election by their availability, willingness to travel, and the number of workers needed.
