  • Ice Machine Cleaning and Descaling

    The following are questions related to only ice machine cleaning and descaling.
  • 1. How often should the ice machine AND dispenser be cleaned?
  • 2. Ensure the evaporator is completely free of ice before cleaning.
  • 3. After removing the front cover, turn OFF the "bin signal" switch.
  • 4. Prior to cleaning, all ice should be dispensed and stored to refill the bin when the cleaning is finished.
  • 5. After which step can the splash panel be completely removed and set aside?
  • 6. The water valve on the right side must be kept open for cleaning and sanitizing
  • 7. Pour water into the drain pan line to ensure water can flow freely.
  • 8. Mix 1 gallon solution of SafeClean Plus with 100+ degree Fahrenheit potable water
  • 9. When the LOW WATER light illuminates, elevate the cleaning cup above the reservoir, then slowly add solution until it is running out of the reservoir overflow tube into the evaporator drain pan.
  • 10. Approximately how long will the cleaning cycle run for before the MAINT/CLEAN light turns OFF?

  • Dispenser Cleaning

    The following are questions related to only dispenser cleaning.
  • 11. Dispenser cleaning can be done while the ice machine completes its cleaning cycle.
  • 12. First, immerse the ice dispense chute, water dispense tube, and drain pan grill in the cleaning solution
  • 13. After removing the baffle and dispense wheel, collect and remove any remaining ice.
  • 14. The hopper drain line should be cleaned with a bottle brush
  • 15. Wipe each of the components with a non-abrasive cloth soaked in SafeClean Plus solution. These components should not be sprayed.
  • 16. To complete cleaning, use a damp cloth with fresh, potable water to rinse all surfaces thoroughly. Be careful not to let excess water run down the motor shaft at the bottom of the hopper, as this may damage the motor.

  • Sanitizing

    The following are questions related to sanitizing.
  • 17. Follett recommends the following sanitizer:
  • 18. Repeat the ice machine cleaning process, but replace the SafeClean Plus solution with sanitizing solution. During the 15 minute wait, the dispenser can be sanitized too.
  • 19. Reattach the splash panel, ice dispense chute, water dispense tube. Then turn on dispenser power and replace the front cover. After 10 minutes of machine operation, dispense all ice from the dispenser and discard.

  • 20. Sanitize the hopper drain line by dipping a 3/4" bottle brush into the solution, then run it through the drain fitting and into the line.
  • 21. Using a non-abrasive cloth, wipe each dispenser component with the sanitary solution. Which of the following is NOT considered a dispenser component?
