• IF: You have answered YES to any of these questions
• IF: You and your partner are at risk and considering pregnancy
• IF: You are still uncertain of you risk for AIDS
We strongly suggest you receive counseling about your risk and the blood test available.
What is safer sex?
Safer sex is staying healthy, having fun and knowing things that you can do to avoid AIDS/HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s)
How do I do that?
• Not having sex
• Having one mutually faithful partner
• Using latex condoms
• Using a lubricant to avoid tearing mucous membranes (moist body tissue)
• Using a sponge or foam with Nonoxynol-8 which kill AIDS and prevents pregnancy
Are you at risk?
Figure it out for yourself.
First: Have I ever been exposed to a body fluid that can transmit AIDS?
• Blood • Semen • Vaginal fluids
Second: Was there any way that blood, semen or vaginal fluids could enter by blood stream through a break in the skin or a tear in the mucous membranes?
Such as:
• Intercourse- vaginal, anal or oral
• Sharing IV Drug needles
What else might increase my risk?
• Have more than one sex partner
• Having already had an STD
• Having sex with a man who has had sex with other men
• Having sex or sharing needles with someone living in an area where there are many people with AIDS/HIV
• Receiving blood transfusions between 1977 and 1985
Could I give AIDS to my unborn child if I were pregnant?
Yes. So please practice safer sex.
Remember, only you can protect yourself. We can help.
