THE PPAO SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
ABOUT
- The PPAO Scholarship Program was created on 13 October 2016 to recognize and honour our members who have passed away, while giving assistance to the young folks who are our future. It runs annually from 01st November until the 31st January of the following year.
The program has grown to eight (8) scholarships having a total purse of $18,000.00 and are awarded to support post-secondary education.
There are 6 (six) $2000.00 awards in honour of those PPAO members who have passed away.
- There are 2 (two) $3000.00 awards named in honour of two of the PPAO’s former Board of Directors members for their meritorious service, Mr. Dale Allen and Mr. Paul Bailey.
- The Dale Allan Scholarship will recognize an individual’s commitment to volunteerism.
- The Paul Bailey Scholarship will recognize an individual’s interest in pursuing a course of study in Leadership, Management and/or Labour Studies.
Applications are only accepted online during the application period, there are no exceptions to this. Any applicant found to be misleading, falsified, or plagiarised will be disqualified. The Committee will review all applications and select successful applicants based on approved selection guidelines set by the committee. The Committee’s decision is final.
Applications will be available on the PPAO website along with application guidelines and detailed instructions for submission when the application period is open.
The PPAO is a proud supporter of these scholarships and strongly encourages all eligible students to apply. If unsuccessful in your application, you may apply in successive years, however former winners of a PPAO scholarship are not eligible for a second scholarship.
ELIGIBILITY:
The following persons are eligible to apply for one of the PPAO Memorial Scholarships:
- A child, grandchild, or great grandchild of a PPAO member in good standing.
- Eligible PPAO members include deceased PPAO members who were in good standing at the time of their death.
DEFINITIONS:
Children: includes, natural children, adopted children, stepchildren, or children to whom the member stands in a position of Loco Parentis.
Member: is defined in section 2 of the PPAO Constitution.
NOTE: For the application to be accepted, the PPAO member sponsoring the applicant, MUST have a valid PPAO membership number in order to validate their status as a member of the PPAO. If the Sponsor does not have a valid PPAO membership number, they will need to register online with the PPAO at, https://membership.ppao.ca/register/.
If the PPAO member sponsoring the applicant has a valid PPAO membership number, but cannot remember or find it, the member will need to go to https://membership.ppao.ca/, and follow the prompts under “view profile/edit profile” in order to retrieve it.
ELIGIBLE INSTITUTIONS:
Accredited Canadian college or university approved by a provincial government, and located within Canada and shall include, but not limited to:
- Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD)
- Ontario Agricultural College
- Ontario Bar Admission Course
- Ontario Police College
- Royal Military College
SCORING CRITERIA:
1. The applicant’s grade 12 academic achievements and any post-secondary school education,
2. A copy of their registration and tuition receipt from an approved institution for current institution.
3. Degrees, diplomas, credits, certificates, personal awards, and achievements.
4. The applicant should demonstrate participation in community service, a commitment to volunteer service and helping others.
5. Verified contact information.
6. Demonstrate experience in leadership. (Positions such as sports teams, school bodies, business, musical groups, cultural organizations, charitable bodies, farm organizations, but not limited to these examples.)
7. The applicant must be between the ages of 16 years and 25 years in the year of the Scholarship application.
8. A detailed resume outlining employment, volunteer roles, and leadership positions.
9. An original essay, written by the applicant, of no less than 300 and no more than 400 words summarizing their extracurricular activities during their teen and adult life, and their plans to “make a difference” by demonstrating future goals.
APPLICATION CONTENT CHECK LIST:
- A summary of your grade 12 secondary school academic achievements,
- A summary of your post-secondary school achievements,
- Other degrees, diplomas, credits, certificates, personal awards, and achievement
- A copy of your tuition receipt from an approved institution for current enrolment,
- A summary of your participation in community service,
- Your resume outlining employment, volunteer roles and any leadership positions you have held,
- A summary of your experience in leadership,
- A 300-to-400-word essay which summarizes your extracurricular activities during your academic years your plans to “make a difference” in the future and the role of your current program in meeting future goals,
- All verification documentation.
Note: Applications missing required information as noted above will not be considered.
SUBMISSIONS
ONLINE APPLICATIONS WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTED BETWEEN
01 NOVEMBER to the FOLLOWING 31 JANUARY (92 days)
APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY 31 JANUARY OF THE AWARD YEAR.

VOTING
All applications will be reviewed and voted on by the Scholarship Committee appointed by the Board of Directors of the PPAO upon completion of the competition. Final adoption of the list of successful recipients will be made by the Board of Directors of the PPAO. All applicants will be notified by email of the outcome of their application.
All successful applicants must provide a photograph of themself, as well as sign a waiver allowing the PPAO to publish their name, photograph, and brief written commentary of them being a recipient of the PPAO Scholarship Award Program.
