Our Transgender Peer Support Service supports transgender, non-binary and gender-diverse Aucklanders and their whānau to access support, information and a sense of community.
Please note that we are not a crisis or emergency service – If you need to talk to someone right now, call or text 1737 any time to talk with a trained counsellor, or check this list of emergency contacts. You can also call our free support line, 0800 688 5463, any evening between 6 and 9 to talk to one of our volunteers.
Our mahi is in supporting people (and their whānau and friends) with things to do with sexuality, gender identity, or intersex status. This might be in exploring and accepting their identity, or dealing with the barriers, discrimination and additional challenges they may face as a gender diverse person throughout their life.
For needs outside of this, we aim to connect with accurate and correct information and services that will provide safe and respectful support.
Who is this service for?
We support people aged 28 years and older who live in the wider Auckland region (Auckland, Waitematā and Counties Manukau District Health Board areas). We work closely with RainbowYOUTH who support gender-diverse people aged 27 and younger in Auckland, and people of all ages in Northland.
The people we work with are gender diverse or questioning their gender identity. We’re using gender diverse as an umbrella term that includes people who identify with terms like transgender, gender non conforming, non-binary, genderqueer, transsexual, agender, tāhine, whakawāhine, tangata ira tāne, Fa’afatama, Fa’afafine, Fakaleiti or Leiti, Fakafifine, Akava’ine and Vakasalewalewa.
What can we help with?
We support people to explore and accept their gender identity, and deal with barriers, discrimination or additional challenges they may face as a gender diverse person throughout their life. We can offer support with accessing gender-affirming healthcare, providing information and resources, and creating connection and community with other gender-diverse people.
This means we can help with things like: referrals for gender-affirming health care, attending peer-support groups, finding relevant and relatable resources, advocating at work, finding clothes, changing your name and gender marker on identity documents, etc. Let us know what you need and we'll do our best to support you.
