Thank you for interest in wanting to become a delivery driver for The Delivery Chef. We have been in business in this area for 16 years. We facilitate food delivery from restaurants to customers in the Uni-four Area. We pride ourselves in delivering the correct food in a timely manner. This means comparing the order on the driver app, to the restaurants receipt, and to the food in the bags/boxes. We also are here to support the driver and keep a good line of communication to ensure this all runs smoothly and correctly with each delivery.

We currently operate Monday-Saturday 10:30am-9:30pm. We offer 2 different shifts, the day shift is 10:30am-5:00pm, the night shift is 4:30pm-9:30pm. So there is a possible of 12 shifts per week, and we ask that you select at least 4 shifts per week. You are able to pick as many shifts as you want, as long as they are available. We release the shifts for picking on Monday mornings for the next week. Some drivers choose to work both day & night shift on the same day, and that is allowed.

We use a couple different Smartphone apps in the process of delivering. They are all free apps, no charge to the driver to use them. You will need to be able to multi-task between apps to efficiently be able to do your job. These apps are used to text dispatch, receive delivery orders, a messaging app to communicate with the team, you can use whatever GPS app you prefer for getting navigation to the customers and restaurants. Good and constant communication with dispatch is a must when you are on a shift and delivering.

This is a brief explanation of how the pay for this position works. For deliveries that are less than 5 miles(from restaurant to customer) you earn a base pay of $4.99 per delivery plus your full tip. After 150 deliveries your base pay increases to $5.99 per delivery. We deliver up to 25 miles from the restaurant to the customer. As the mileage from restaurant to customer goes up, so does the amount you earn on the delivery. I’ve seen delivery fees as high as $45. The further you drive the more you make. Customers can pay for their orders with cash or credit card. For credit card orders, all the driver has to do is get a signature upon delivery. On cash orders, the driver will collect the correct amount of cash from the customer upon delivery.

At the end of the day, we determine how much money you are owed for working that day. If you collected more cash than you earned that day, you will owe the excess cash to the business. If you collected less cash than what you earned that day, then the business will owe you. We keep up with the rolling daily total of what you are owed from the business/or what you owe the business. We track this on a Google Sheet document which you will have access to. We settle up every Tuesday by you either withdrawing what is owed to you or depositing what you owe. If during the week you reach a limit of +/- $100, then we would settle up that day in addition to settling up on every Tuesday. Drivers are independent contractors and will receive a 1099-NEC form at the end of the year for their tax purposes. It is the driver’s responsibility to keep track of their mileage for tax purposes.

If we continue to move forward with the application and hiring process, orientation/on-boarding will take place at the owner’s home office in Hickory. Orientation/on-boarding takes about 2 hours to complete in person. This is usually done on weekdays from 8:30am-10:30am. Will this be an issue to schedule this in if we continue this process?
