At Buhler Painting we strive to perform Quality Work, Safely and Efficiently. In an effort to educate all of our workers on the multiple aspects of safety required in the painting industry, we have created the Buhler Painting Safety Handbook. Highlighted below are some of the main safety hazards that you will come across in the painting industry and a brief summary of the most common regulations that are called into question on the job site. Please read this document carefully and initial and sign to show that you have understood.
Heights
When working on any elevated surface above 10 ft, fall protections must be used. This includes roofs, balconies or any other elevated surface without 3 ft high railings.
Roofs – ensure fall protection is used with secure anchor point above 10 ft
Ladders – ensure proper ladder safety is used when working at both low & high heights
Decks – ensure fall protection is used on any decks above 10 ft
Lifts
Daily lift inspections should be done to ensure equipment is in proper working order
A harness must be worn at all times and be secured to the lift platform.
Electricity
When working near electrical power lines, you and your ladder, lift and equipment must remain a minimum of 10 ft away at all times. A supervisor must be informed prior to doing any work near them.
High Pressure Equipment
Sprayers and Pressure Washers present a risk of injection. If injection occurs, immediately get to a hospital within 30 minutes and tell the emergency staff that you have been injected.
Chemicals
Chemicals we work with are dangerous to varying degrees. Inhalation, ingestion, injection, skin contact and eye contact are all very serious and can cause permanent damage or even death. PDS, SDS and WHMIS info sheets for all products used on all jobsites should be available on site and on Basecamp. Commonly used dangerous chemicals are: Lacquer Thinner, Xylene, Acetone, Methyl Hydrate, and Mineral Spirits.
