Please answer the questions below in one paragraph or less.
Question 1 - A student shows up to the third meeting with you not having completed his homework... again. He is falling behind on the timeline that he agreed to with his advisor. He has a good attitude, though, and is very agreeable during your meetings. What would you say to this student? What concrete actions would you take moving forward?
Question 2 - A student's mother sits in on your first meeting with the student, and she is very adamant about her ideas for how to approach her daughter's personal statement. The mother doesn't show up to sequential meetings, but you suspect that the mother is writing the student's personal statement for her. The words are too sophisticated and don't fit the student's voice. How would you handle this situation?
Question 3 - A student shows up to your first meeting and tells you that he feels incredibly average for a pre-med and doesn't have anything interesting to write about in his personal statement. He doesn't volunteer any ideas for how to start or what to cover. How would you approach this situation?
Question 4 - After you finish a personal statement with a student, he shows up to the next meeting with a slew of feedback from two physicians he knows who read the statement. You review their suggestions and don't agree with their criticism. You think the suggestions would make the essay worse, but the student seems to respect and trust these mentors' opinions. How would you approach this situation?
Question 5 - Give an example of a time when you went above and beyond expectations (this can be from any part of your life). What were the expectations, and how did you exceed them?
