NC Teen Shabbaton 2020 Registration
  • NC Teen Shabbaton 2020 Registration

    Fri, January 31 - Sunday, February 2
  • Please fill out this form by December 31, 2019 to register for the NC Teen Shabbaton 2020.

The Shabbaton will take place from 5:00pm on January 31 to 9:00am on February 2 at the Levin Jewish Community Center in Durham. Please note that transportation to and from the JCC is not included in your registration.

This form has questions that pertain to both participants and parents/guardians. Please fill it out together in one sitting, as the form does not save responses until it is submitted. It should take around 15-20 minutes to complete. You will want to have the participant's insurance card and doctor's name/phone number handy.

Early Bird Registration Rate: $65 by Dec 1

Regular Registration Rate: $75 by Dec 31

Please feel free to reach out if you are concerned about your ability to pay. We want the NC Teen Shabbaton to be accessible to all NC Jewish teens.

At the end of this form, you will have the option to mail in a check or be directed to PayPal for payment.

For registration questions please email averyl@betheldurham.org or text Averyl (she/her/hers) at (919) 316-8699.

  • Participant Information

  • Thanks for your interest in attending the NC Teen Shabbaton. Unfortunately, registration this year is only open to North Carolina residents.

  • We couldn't help but notice that you live in the Triangle!

Would you be willing to help us out during the Shabbaton? We are looking for parents to help with cooking meals and providing rides to our Saturday night activity (TBD).

If you check any of the boxes below, we will follow up with you to confirm the details.

  • Transportation Information

  • Important policy change: This year, due to limited parking spaces and safety concerns, we will not allow participants to drive themselves or others to the Shabbaton. Participants must be dropped off by a parent, guardian, or trusted adult.

We understand that it may be difficult due to work hours/traffic to get participants to the JCC by 5pm on Friday, so we will have a rolling check-in from 5-6pm. Candle lighting time in Durham on Jan 31 is 5:23pm. Arrangements can be made for a participant to be dropped off earlier if drivers are concerned about making it home before Shabbat begins.

  • Hospitality

  • We will remain in the JCC for the duration of the Shabbaton, with the exception of our Saturday night activity (TBD).

In the interest of inclusivity for our non-binary and transgender participants, we will all sleep in one large room on both nights. If anyone is uncomfortable sleeping in a room with people of a different gender, we can also provide a gender-segregated alternative room upon request.

The JCC's showers will be available to participants during times when the gym is not open to the public. There are three showers in the women's and men's locker rooms, respectively, as well as one shower in one of the gender-non-specific single-stall bathrooms.

Since we will be sleeping on the floor, participants should bring a sleeping bag, pillow, sleeping pad, and/or anything else needed to sleep comfortably.

  • Dietary Needs

  • The food served at the NC Teen Shabbaton will be 100% vegetarian and nut free. Most meals will be prepared in the JCC's vegetarian kitchen from mostly hechschered (certified kosher) food products. We will likely order pizza for Saturday night's dinner. We will provide snacks throughout the weekend, but you are also welcome to bring your own nut-free vegetarian snacks.

Please write your full name if you agree to the text below.

  • Brit Kehillah - Community Covenant

  • By participating in the NC Teen Shabbaton, we are creating a community together as North Carolinian Jewish teens. This is a special space which we are approaching thoughtfully and with intentionality so that everyone feels safe and welcome.

We understand that sometimes the actions of even one person against the sanctity of the space can have rippling consequences for everyone else. For that reason we ask you to read over each of the below community expectations and make sure that you are prepared to commit to follow them for the sake of everyone else in attendance.

Please read each expectation and write your name below.

  • Phew! You made it through the policy section.

    It's important, but tedious.™
  • The cost of the NC Teen Shabbaton is $65 per participant if you apply before Dec 1st, after that it is $75 per participant until registration closes on Dec 31st.

If you are not sure if you can pay this amount, please reach out to one of us or talk to your local synagogue or youth group to see if they may be able to offer you a scholarship.

  • Amazing! Having a friend at youth group events makes everything better.

Per the registration incentive that is going on until midnight tonight (Dec 31st), you and {didAnother} will both receive $5 off your registration fee.

If you are paying by check (see below), just send in a check of $70 instead of $75. If you are paying via PayPal, please enter the promo code "YAYFRIENDS" before you click submit.

  • Thank you! We will be in touch with you when we have a better understanding of the need. You will have the option to donate as much or as little as you are comfortable with.

  • Please address your check to "Beth El Synagogue" with "NCTS20- {participantName}" in the memo. Then mail it to the address below:
