Grant Category: Literacy
Funding Goal: $1500
Magnolia Elementary is one out of 8 schools who are early adopters to a new ILA program. This program, Units of Study Workshop, provides students with an ample amount of independent reading time where teachers use conferencing and small groups to move students up in reading ability.
In order for this program to be as effective as possible, students need BOOKS! On average, classroom libraries should have 300 books per student. Currently, 2 out of 3 students are NOT reading on grade level. In addition, approximately 86% are free and reduced lunch. This data demonstrates the need to put books in student's hands!
The goals of this program will:
1. Provide classroom libraries with cultural diverse text.
2. Provide libraries with books at multiple levels.
3. Provide a lot of choice of text.
