  • Greetings,   Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the Marching Storm Black Foxes dance line. Attached you will find the requirements for tryouts as well as the items needed if you become a member of the dance line. You will also find the application that will need to be filled out online and submitted prior to the day of the audition. There is a $25 non-refundable application fee , which must be paid online prior to the audition. The link for the online payment will be displayed at the bottom of the application. If you are selected to progress to the 2nd Round which is held on campus, all you will need to bring the day of the audition is a copy of your transcript (Current PV or transfer students only) and a headshot. You may also upload the items prior to Round 1 video submission at the end of this application. The transcript and headshot will not be returned to you. Your number will be assigned to you the day of auditions. Your attire for auditions is a black sports bra or midriff dance top and black boy shorts, flesh tone tights, black socks, and jazz sneakers or jazz shoes. For round 1, you may use a themed costume for your solo performance. The members of the 2020-21 Black Foxes will be announced at the conclusion of the Audition. Please let me know if you have any questions about the process by emailing smzachery@pvamu.edu. Thanks again for your interest,   Shawn Zachery

  • REQUIREMENTS   • Current PV Students MUST have a minimum 2.5 GPA at the time of auditions and maintain that minimum for the duration of participation on the Dance Line.   • Exemplify upstanding behavior and character at all times.   • Must be willing and able to alter hair styles as determined by the director.   • Must be of sound moral character and free of legal entanglements  • Must not have been suspended from the University for any reason.   • Exceptional dance skills as demonstrated through ballet, jazz, hip hop and modern   • Must be easily approachable, cooperative, trustworthy and creative. Must also consistently operate in the spirit of teamwork keeping a positive and motivational demeanor.   • Must look well-proportioned and fit in dancewear and dance uniforms. We DO NOT have specific height and weight requirements; however, a physically fit and healthy body is demanded by our uniforms that are worn in the fall and spring semesters, as well as by our rigourous field show routines.   • Must be organized and timely. Timeliness is required by the dancer for rehearsals and performances; arriving 5 minutes prior to call time and remaining until the end of rehearsal/performance.   • Must maintain an appropriate appearance that is characteristic of an ambassador of Prairie View A&M University. Hair, attire and personal grooming must be maintained DAILY. A disheveled appearance at any time is completely unacceptable.   • To be eligible for continued membership as a Black Fox, a record of outstanding participation in the fall dance season as well as the spring performance season must be observed. This will be determined by field and stand performance during the fall semester and scheduled performances during the spring semester.   • Exceptional performance ability and showmanship is a necessity.   • Must be able to meet all financial obligations of being a member of the dance team. A list of required items necessary for participation in the Marching Storm, along with estimated costs for each item, will be provided to each member within ONE WEEK of auditions. A fees schedule will be provided to each member outlining the items that are being purchased and when monies for these items are due. It is extremely important that members of the Black Foxes prepare ahead of time to meet these financial obligations.

  • PRAIRIE VIEW A&M UNIVERSITY BLACK FOXES RULES AND REGULATIONS   • YEAR-LONG commitment (Fall AND Spring Semesters)   • Mandatory Marching Storm Rehearsals (Fall - Mon – Friday, 5:30pm-10pm; Spring – Wednesday 6-10 pm; unless otherwise noted by the Director of Bands)   • Mandatory performances and appearances   • Must enroll in the PVAMU University Band course.   • Must notify the appropriate Marching Storm personnel, along with the Director of Bands, regarding any absences from rehearsals or performances. IMPORTANT: NOT ALL ABSENCES ARE EXCUSED. UNEXCUSED absences will affect your grade in Band. You must consult with the Director of Bands to determine if your absence is excused. Missing rehearsals or performances because of a job is NOT excused. It is NOT recommended that you have a job during football season.   • Zero tolerance for drugs, alcohol, and other inappropriate behavior, including on social media . This is cause for automatic dismissal. Refer to page 23,Section B of Student Code of Conduct (2011-2012)   • Zero tolerance for fighting and/or stealing. This is cause for automatic dismissal for all involved.   • Recognize and respect all authority figures in the band, Directors, drum majors, section leaders, etc. Insubordination to Black Fox or Band section leaders, Drum Majors and Band Staff will not be tolerated and is cause for dismissal.   • Understand, no position is guaranteed. Auditions may be held every week (at the Director's discretion) to determine which dancers will perform for that week’s game. All dancers must still ensure their fees have been paid, as directed and attend every technique class and rehearsal, even if they are not cast for that week.   • All Black Foxes are held accountable to the same rules and regulations as Marching Storm members and are subject to the same consequences if they do not adhere to those rules. Black Foxes also have rules and guidelines specific to the dance line that must be adhered to. Violations of the established rules and regulations may also affect the dancer’s ability to perform for the week’s game or other performances/appearances.   • The Black Foxes dance line does not believe in hazing and follows Prairie View A&M University’s anti-hazing policy. Hazing of any kind will not be tolerated. Refer to page 25,Section M of Student Code of Conduct (2011-2012).   • MUST ATTEND MANDATORY PVAMU Marching Storm Band CAMP in August prior to the beginning of the Fall Semester, and Marching Storm Spring Band Camp in April of the Spring semester.   • On trips, Black Foxes must leave and return with the band unless excused by the Director of Bands. In order to be excused, an appropriate guardian must send an email to the Director of Bands requesting that they pick you up from the band buses. This email must be submitted at least 24 hours prior to departure. This is a liability issue and applies to every member of the Marching Storm.   • Black Foxes are responsible for the maintenance of assigned uniforms. This includes returning them at the appropriate time. Failure to turn in uniform(s) will result in adding the cost to your university billing statement.   • All Black Foxes are expected to maintain their physical appearance as viewed by judges at the audition.  • Because the image, exposure, and prestige of the Black Foxes is nation-wide, we are strongly committed to personal appearance, conduct, poise, and projection at all times.   • All Black Foxes are required to fill out a student health form and receive a physical in order to participate in any activities.   VIOLATION OF ANY OF THE ABOVE CONSTITUTES SEVERE DISCIPLINARY ACTION INCLUDING INDEFINITE SUSPENSION AND/OR TERMINATION FROM THE SQUAD

  • I have reviewed requirements for Black Fox auditions and have reviewed all rules and regulations pertaining to membership on the Black Foxes Dance Line. I understand that receipt of these requirements, rules and regulations in NO WAY serves as a guarantee of membership on the Dance Line. I further understand that during the audition ALL judges decisions are final.
