PURPOSE:
The COF Mentor Award recognizes ACE member presidents’ and chancellors’ contributions to enhancing the diversity and capacity of future leaders of American higher education.
SELECTION PROCESS AND SELECTION CRITERIA:
Nominations are solicited annually by the COF from all former Fellows. The COF Chair convenes the COF officers and committee chairs to make the selection.
- To be eligible for consideration, a nominee must:
- Be a president or chancellor (or a recently retired president or chancellor) of an ACE member institution.
- Have served as a mentor to three or more ACE Fellows.
- Mentor is defined as an individual who has supported through mentoring an ACE Fellow as a nominator, host campus, and/or post-fellowship Sage
- Be nominated by a former Fellow; and
- Have at least one additional supporting letter for the nomination from another Fellow mentored by the nominee.
Selection is based on the following criteria:
- Commitment to leadership development, with evidence that the nominee has aided in enhancing the diversity and capacity of American higher education.
- Intentional mentoring.
- Articulation of strategies and values that underlay decisions.
- Evidence of transformational leadership; and
- Continuing relationships with the Fellows over time.
