Welcome to ACTLab!
ACT – A Contemporary Theatre is home to a laboratory of artistic creation known as the ACTLab. Partnering with local, national, and international theatre artists and companies, ACTLab fills the five theatre-spaces at ACT with great art. We aspire to partner with ground-breaking theatre makers to tell the stories worth telling and to contribute to the growth of artists and companies in our community.
ACTLab exists to invite artists to experience and create groundbreaking process and product through a curated partnership program.
ACT Lab is investing in the imagination of audiences and artists, cultivating new ideas through experimentation, excellent art, and meaningful partnerships.
ABOUT THE PARTNERSHIP
ACTLab was formed in 2007 as a partnership program to fill the five theatres at ACT with boundary-pushing art. ACTLab co-presents up to eight large multi-week productions per year, produced in on of our four theatre spaces.
ACTLab partners act as sole producers on their project, with assistance provided from ACT as outlined below and detailed in the contract. The partner is responsible for contracting all actors, designers, director, and other artistic/creative staff, and funding the production build/materials, unless otherwise agreed upon.
ACT uses IATSE union labor for production of main stage and ACTLab shows. The ACTLab partnership structure is designed to help offset the cost of union labor for smaller producing organizations through a shared expense split and partner-supplied labor. However, if your organization is working with a smaller budget, please consider the Plug & Play series in the Lalie. More details can be found below.
ACTLab CAN OFFER:
Rehearsal space donated by ACT (provided space is available)
Performance space donated by ACT
Marketing assistance provided by ACT (plan to be mutually approved)
Ticket revenue split (70% to the partner organization/30% to act)
Shared IATSE & Front of House labor expenses (also 70/30)
At ACT, we offer subscribers a package that includes significantly subsidized ticket costs to all of our shows, including the ACTLab. As a partner, you receive a modest payout per ACTPass ticket reserved for your show, and then the revenue split outlined above applies to non-ACTPass tickets sold.
This ACTPass program is vital to the health of the theatre as a whole, and to the financial viability of the Lab. As a result, ACTPass seating in all ACTLab shows is a non-negotiable part of our partnership. Our ACTPass holders are our most avid theatre supporters, and we look forward to sharing your work with this new and engaged audience.
