      Eligibility
      AECT membership upon application and a member of the International Division;
      a non-US citizen graduate student or a non-US citizen faculty member in the first three years of faculty appointment

      Qualifications

      • studying, teaching, or practicing in the field of educational communications and technology;
      • involvement in international activities (or projects in an international context) with strong preference in leadership roles;
      • submission of an essay;
      • submission of two letters of recommendation.


      Required Application Documents
      Please provide an essay on why you should be considered for this intern scholarship. The essay should not be more than 1,000 words and should be in English. The essay should support why you are qualified for this intern scholarship. Additional required information your application must include:

      • interest in the Internship Award;
      • interest in AECT;
      • international experiences related to educational communications and technology;
      • research and publications (optional for student applicants, but required for faculty applicants);
      • professional memberships (optional for student applicants, but required for faculty applicants).

      Two letters of recommendation from persons who are familiar with your personal and professional qualities are required. Upon submission of this application, an email requesting a reference will be sent on your behalf to the references provided. Applicants will have to list the names, phone numbers, and email addresses of those individuals who have agreed to prepare the letters of recommendation on your behalf.

       
      Applicants should keep in touch with the references to make sure that the references receive the request from AECT. If they did not receive it, applicants should contact the past president of the International Division. Applicants also need to remind their references to submit the letters of recommendation on time. It is not the responsibility of AECT nor the International Division to keep track of the progress of the submissions of the letters of recommendation.


      Electronic submission of all application materials is required. All required materials, including the letters of recommendation, must be submitted online. 

      Jenny Johnson International Internship Application
      The Jenny Johnson International Internship will be awarded to a non-U.S. citizen graduate student or a non-U.S. citizen faculty member in the first three years of faculty appointment who is studying, teaching, or practicing in the field of educational communications and technology; and demonstrates involvement in international activities (or projects in an international context) with a strong preference in leadership roles.


      Nature of Award: A plaque of achievement and complimentary conference registration

    • Robert deKieffer International Fellowship

      Purpose:
      The AECT Robert deKieffer International Fellowship Award is presented to an individual in recognition of professional leadership in the field of educational communications and technology in a foreign country.


      Background:
      Robert deKieffer was born in Chicago in 1916. His father died when he was only four years old. Bob was diagnosed with dyslexia so his mother encouraged him to study music which eventually led him to Heidelberg, Germany after his high school graduation. Bob served as Concertmaster of the Heidelberg Symphony Orchestra then he returned to the United States and earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Northwestern University. After serving in the Navy during World War II, he earned his Ph.D. from State University of Iowa, where he established his reputation in the educational technology field with the study, "The Status of Teacher-Training in Audio-Visual Education in the Forty-Eight States", a forty year longitudinal study reported at ten-year intervals. Bob held positions with Stephens College in Missouri and the University of Oklahoma then, in 1954 Bob became the director of the Bureau of Audio-Visual Instruction at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he developed an extensive film collection, supported instructional television and eventually served as Dean of the Division of Continuing Education until his retirement in 1982. Always interested in leadership development, Bob served as AECT President and Chair of the ECT Foundation, giving many years of leadership and service to his profession


      Eligibility:

      • must be a professional (doctorate or equivalent experience required) in any level position in educational communications and technology;
      • the nomination of a candidate must be in recognition of work performed in a nation outside of the USA or for a project with its major component being based outside of the USA;
      • must be a member of AECT at the time that the award is granted.

      Review Criteria:


      In addition to the eligibility criteria, the recipient must meet at least ONE of the following requirements which will be reviewed for In addition to the eligibility criteria, the recipient must meet at least ONE of the following requirements which will be reviewed for quality, impact and achievement level based on evidence provided.

      • Has conducted a major project or been involved in the advancement of the educational communications and technology field outside of the USA.;
      • is recognized as a leader in the field in teaching, research and/or service;
      • has been instrumental and active in forging one or more professional partnerships between the U.S. and a foreign country.
      • Quality, impact and achievement level based on evidence provided.

      Selection:


      The International Division Award Committee will review nominations and select a recipient.

    • Distinguished International Service in Education Communications and Technology Award

      Purpose:
      The Distinguished Service Award (DSA), our highest award, recognizes a member for leadership, dedication and service to the profession in the international arena. In addition, DSA also recognizes this person’s participation in the International Division and contributions to AECT at large.

      Eligibility:

      • A record of outstanding service to the profession in an international arena for at least ten years;
      • Continuous outstanding service and devotion to the community of educational communications and technology for professionals and students;
      • Service in International Division at multiple levels;
      • Candidate is current member of AECT and the International Division and has been member of International Division for at least three years.

      Review Criteria:

      • A letter of nomination by one International Division member;
      • A letter of support from at least one additional AECT member;
      • Candidate’s Portfolio/CV link

      Selection:
      The International Division Award Committee will review nominations and select a recipient.

    • International Contribution Award

      Purpose:
      The International Contribution Award recognizes a person, who has, over a substantial period of time, made significant contributions to the field of educational communications and technology internationally and shown outstanding leadership across national boundaries and in international settings.


      Eligibility:

      • Candidate has recognized records of contributions to the international field in educational communications and technology over five years;
      •  extraordinary service to the profession (evidence of publications, projects, leadership or teaching);
      • Candidate must be a member of AECT or join prior to the receiving year.

      Review Criteria:

      • Nomination by a member of AECT with the description of nominee’s impact on the international educational arena.
      • A letter of support by at least one additional AECT member.
      • Candidate’s Portfolio/CV link

      Selection:

      The International Division Award Committee will review nominations and select a recipient.

    • Outstanding Student Practice of Educational Technology in an International Setting

      Purpose:

      The Outstanding Practice by a Student Award recognizes an undergraduate/graduate student in the field of Educational Communications and Technology who is heavily involved or has made substantial contributions in a project or a professional practice in an international setting (outside the U.S.). Accompanying the nomination letter, a brief but concise description of the nature of the project/practice and the student’s involvement in the project/practice should be clearly described.


      Eligibility:

      • Must be an AECT member at the time of receiving the award;
      • Candidate has played a major role in the project/practice if a group is involved;
      • Candidate must currently be a student or was a student within a calendar year.

      Review Criteria:

      Concise description of project/practice and, if available, access to the artifact, i.e.website, picture of the product;
      Description of the student’s involvement and/or role in the project/practice.

      Selection:

      The International Division Award Committee will review nominations and select a recipient.

    • Dick Cornell Award

      Purpose:

      The Richard Cornell Award is granted in honor of the late Dr. Cornell from the University of Central Florida. Cornell followed many paths during his long life until he found that working with students, especially those from Taiwan and China, was where his heart felt fulfilled.

      Cornell’s AECT home was in the International Division (ID), but he was well-known and highly respected throughout AECT. For many years, he served as the ID’s official auctioneer during the International Dinner and Auction and raised funds that were mostly set aside to help international graduate students in the ID.

      Although Prof. Richard Cornell has passed, his kindness, compassion, and support will remain with all who were fortunate enough to know him. His impact on the International Division is unending.

      Eligibility:

      • Candidates must be a member of AECT and the ID and either a graduate student or a recent graduate of a doctoral program in the first two years of a professional position.
      • Candidates must either be a native of another nation or currently working or studying in one, and must provide a letter describing the work performed by the applicant in helping students. 
      • A letter of support must be included from the graduate school advisor.

      Review Criteria:

      • Quality, impact and achievement level based on evidence provided for supporting students.
      • A letter of support by at least one graduate school advisor.
      • Candidate’s Portfolio/CV link.

      Selection:

      The International Division Award Committee will review nominations and select a recipient.

    • Marina McIsaac Award

      Purpose:

      Dr. Marina McIsaac has been a long-time supporter of AECT since joining the association in 1973. In addition, she is a past-president of the International Division and the International Council for Educational Media. Each year, she encouraged and supported graduate students to attend and to present their research at AECT’s annual conferences. At these conferences, she introduced her students to other academic community members. Such exercises helped her students to expand their networks.


      McIsaac’s traditions expanded to four generations of academic scholars. It was due to her dedication to the international academic community that current members are following Dr. McIsaac's role-modeling. The Award acknowledges McIsaac for her endeavor to continue adding young members to adopt AECT among their professional affiliations. Moreover, several of her former students have served as president of the International Division.


      Eligibility:

      • Candidates must be a member AECT and of the International Division.
      • Provided evidence for a continuing (several years) support of graduate students to attend and present at AECT’s annual conferences. 
      • A letter of support must be included from a long standing International Division member.


      Review Criteria:

      • Quality, impact and achievement level based on evidence provided for supporting graduate students to attend and present at AECT’s annual conferences.
      • A letter of support by at least one long standing International Division member.
      • Candidate’s Portfolio/CV link.

      Selection:

      The International Division Award Committee will review nominations and select a recipient.

    • Best Proposal Award

      Purpose:


      The International Division Best Proposal Award is presented to the author(s) of the best proposal submitted to the International Division and accepted for a concurrent session.


      The awardee(s) will receive a certificate presented during the awards ceremony at the annual AECT International Convention. In general, the best proposal represents research or practice poised to facilitate communication among educational technology professionals and students worldwide, as well as promote interactions that transcend international boundaries and cultural lines.


      Eligibility:


      1. The Proposal author(s) must be a current member of AECT and a member of the International Division.
      2. Proposals must be submitted to the International Division and accepted for a concurrent session.


      Review Criteria:

      The proposal must be an original, unpublished work dealing with research and/ or theory in international educational technology. It can include a theoretical construct, analyses of related research, and original recommendations for future research and/or development. The proposal may not be a published report of a specific research study or development project. It must also conform to a recent edition of the Publications Manual of the American Psychological Association.


      Selection:

      The selection of the winning proposal will be the responsibility of the awards committee for the International Division. Only a submission judged worthy of the award will be selected.

      All concurrent proposals accepted by the International Division will be considered for the award.
