Parent Responsibilities:
❏ Be an active instructional participant in my student’s education (or provide a qualified, alternative teacher), providing direct instruction on home study days approximately 4 hours daily for grades 4-8 and 2-3 hours daily for grades K-3 or as much time needed to complete daily assignments.
❏ Bring students consistently on their classroom days, arriving at school on time each day (in seat by first bell.)
❏ Grade my student’s home day work on a daily basis checking for completion and mastery and reteaching any necessary skills.
❏ Make sure my student does not get behind in their home study assignments.
❏ Train my student to have all his/her work done by classroom due dates and check-ins. It is also my responsibility to compile all home day assignments and send them to school on the 4 annual check-ins days.
❏ Follow the check-ins procedures which include:
● turning in completed work by check-in date
● evaluating and sending in student progress on the rubric provided
● giving 24 hours notice if check-in is missed due to illness or a family emergency
❏ Attend two ReFLEXion parent teacher conferences per year.
❏ Contact our classroom teacher or Academic Advisor for help if my child is struggling to master skills.
❏ Ensure that my child participates in all applicable mandated tests, and other school-wide assessments.
❏ Recognize the importance of responding to communications from my Academic Advisor or classroom teacher by responding promptly (within 24 hours).
❏ Understand that if the parent and student have three unexcused meetings, or fail to bring work on two or more check-in days, the student may be withdrawn from HFA.
❏ Understand that if a student is more than 20% behind in assignments, or fails to submit an assignment (a week’s assigned work) to the supervising teacher for two consecutive school weeks an Evaluation of Continued Enrollment form will be completed at a mandatory conference with the Academic Advisor.
❏ Understand that it may be determined that my student is not a good candidate for Independent Study, and an alternate program may be recommended.
