The Michelle Alston Memorial Scholarship was established in loving memory of Michelle Alston whose life was deeply rooted in creativity, expression, and passion for the performing arts. Michelle believed in the power of music, dance, theater, and artistic storytelling to inspire confidence, discipline, and purpose.
This scholarship is awarded to graduating high school seniors who plan to major in the Arts at an accredited Historically Black College/University. It seeks to support students who demonstrate artistic talent, dedication to their craft, and a commitment to using their gifts to positively impact their communities.
Through this scholarship, Michelle’s legacy continues encouraging young artists to pursue their dreams, honor their creativity, and carry forward a love for the arts that transcends generations. This scholarship in sponsored by UOO Chapter member Kira Lawson, Family & Friends.
Award Details amount: $600
Eligibility Requirements:
- Majoring in the Arts - Visual Arts, Music, Dance, Creative Writing or Drama
- Graduating senior accepted into an accredited four-year HBCU college or university in the Fall of 2026.
- Attend a public high school in Richland School District One/Two or Lexington-Richland School District Five.
- Have a cumulative high school grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale.
-Provide documentation of your talent and committment to the Arts
- Submit an Official High School Transcript
-Submit 2 Letters of Recommendation
- Submission of an essay and professional headshot.
Scholarship applications will be accepted from February 16, 2026 - March 27, 2026.
All applications must be postmarked by March 27, 2026.
