About the Event
To mark the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), the ASEAN Foundation presents the ASEAN Foundation Model ASEAN Meeting (AFMAM) East Asia Summit 2026: TAC Edition from 7–11 December 2026 at ASEAN Headquarters in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The programme will bring together 60 exceptional university students to explore how the TAC’s principles can help address contemporary regional challenges. Through a youth diplomacy programme, participants will step into the roles of ASEAN and EAS representatives, exchange perspectives, navigate strategic discussions, negotiate positions, and co-create a youth-led Outcome Document across three areas—Conflict Prevention and Preventive Diplomacy, Maritime Security and Cooperation, and Emerging Threats and Challenges.
Under the official theme, “Reinvigorating the TAC: Advancing ASEAN Centrality for Peace, Security, and Rules-based Cooperation in an Evolving Indo-Pacific,” the programme will bring youth closer to ASEAN–East Asia relations and deepen understanding of the TAC. Participants will explore shared regional challenges, exchange perspectives across cultures, and bring youth voices into discussions on regional peace, security, and cooperation.
Funding: Fully supported for applicants from ASEAN Member States and Australia, covering round-trip travel to Jakarta, accommodation, local transport, and meals. Applicants from other EAS countries are welcome; funding is subject to home-country arrangements, and partial funding is welcome.
