  • The Architecture Foundation of Oregon (AFO) educates and inspires Oregonians of all ages and backgrounds to engage in the design of our built environment. AFO Scholarships support future design and building professionals and encourage people from diverse backgrounds to participate in the process of designing and building our world.

    Please submit this form to be considered for the following scholarships. Follow each link to review eligibility and application requirements:

    • $5,000 Hatfield Architectural Award
    • $5,000 William Hart Scholarship
    • $10,000 Tsagaglalal (She Who Watches) Scholarship
    • $5,000 Hermann Colas, Jr. Legacy Scholarship
    • $5,000 PAE Diversity in Engineering Scholarship

    This application does NOT include the $5,000 PCC Architecture + Interior Design Scholarship. Applicants must apply directly through PCC Foundation by February 1, 2026 to be considered. Learn more.

    You are welcomed and encouraged to apply for all AFO scholarships for which you are eligible. If you plan to apply for more than one AFO scholarship, please do so in a single application submission—do not submit separate applications for each scholarship. You are also welcome to apply for a single scholarship.

    You will be able to save a draft of your application as you work on it. We encourage you to work on your application essay(s) in a separate document and paste it in one it is finalized (please take note of word count requirements per essay).

    Scholarship Workshops & Resources

    Visit our website to sign up for a workshop and access resources. During these workshops we cover eligibility, the application process, and how to prepare a successful application. Attendees will receive tips and feedback on scholarship essays, portfolios/work samples, and more. Workshops are free and open to eligible scholarship candidates.

  • Hatfield Architectural Award

    $5,000 scholarship for undergraduate and graduate architecture, interior architecture, and landscape architecture students attending University of Oregon or Portland State University who express commitment to community service. Learn more.

    Eligibility:

    • Current undergraduate or graduate student (students graduating this school year are eligible to apply)
    • Enrolled in one of the following bachelor’s or master’s degree programs at University of Oregon or Portland State University

      Portfolio Intent: Your portfolio is an opportunity to showcase your passions and projects that you are proud of, including work created during and/or outside of school. Portfolio shall feature architecture projects and can feature creative arts, building and community focused projects. Process images and work that expresses design thinking is encouraged.

      • Include images, graphics, and written narrative to explain each project
      • 10 pages maximum
      • Include at least one project completed individually (not a group project)

    • Two Letters of Recommendation for Hatfield Award

      Please have two recommenders email their letters directly to Candice Agahan, AFO Director of Community Engagement, candice@af-oregon.org. Letters of recommendation must not exceed one page and must address your achievements, potential in design, and commitment to community service. Letters should not be from a direct peer or friend.

      • One letter must be from a community member
      • Second letter can be from architectural faculty or another person of your choice

  • William Hart Scholarship

    $5,000 scholarship for Black, Indigenous, and/or people of color (BIPOC) undergraduate and graduate architecture students at University of Oregon or Portland State University. Learn more.

    Eligibility:

    • Identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or a person of color
    • Current undergraduate or graduate student (students graduating this school year are eligible to apply)
    • Enrolled in one of the following bachelor’s or master’s degree programs at University of Oregon or Portland State University

  • Tsagaglalal (She Who Watches) Scholarship

    (pronounced sha-glal)

    Renewable $10,000 scholarship for non-graduating Indigenous students of U.S. states and territories, pursuing a degree in art or architecture at Portland State University. Learn more.

    Eligibility:

    • Ethnically identify as Indigenous of U.S. states and/or territories including Native American, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, and U.S. Territories including Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and U.S. Virgin Islands
    • Attending Portland State University during the 2026-27 school year including (students graduating 2026 are not eligible):
      • Incoming freshman or transfer student accepted to Portland State University starting Fall 2026 or before
      • Undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled at Portland State University
    • Pursuing a degree through the Schnitzer School of Art + Art History + Design or the School of Architecture
    • Enrollment status = Full-Time or 3/4 Time at Portland State University for the 2026-27 school year – Fall, Winter, and Spring terms (enrollment status info)
    • Tsagaglalal (She Who Watches) Scholarship

    $5,000 scholarship for Black and Latin(x) undergraduate students pursuing a 4-year degree in construction management, engineering, or architecture at an Oregon college or university. Learn more.

    Eligibility:

    • Identify as Black and/or Latin(x)
    • Incoming freshman or current undergraduate student pursuing a 4-year degree, enrolled in an Oregon community college or university for the 2026-27 school year
    • Pursuing a degree in construction management, engineering, or architecture
    • Desire to make a positive impact within the built community

      Select a construction, engineering, or architecture related project that you are proud of in the form of images, photographs, graphics, video, audio, writing, and/or other art/building projects, including work created during and/or outside of school. If possible, include a project related to community impact on the built environment.

  • PAE Diversity in Engineering Scholarship

    Renewable $5,000 scholarship for undergraduate students marginalized by ethnicity and/or gender, pursuing engineering with a passion for climate justice at an accredited 4-year university in the United States. Learn more.

    Eligibility:

    • Identify as a person of a marginalized ethnicity and/or gender including Black, Indigenous, person of color, women, trans, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming
    • Incoming freshman, transfer, and/or undergraduate student pursuing a 4-year degree at a U.S. college or university for the 2026-27 school year
    • Pursuing or intending to pursue an accredited degree in engineering: mechanical, electrical, renewable energy, architectural, or civil
    • Desire to use climate action and engineering to make a positive impact
    • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
