  • Your Bike

    Trip: 27th June 2026 - 06th July 2026
  • You MUST ensure that your bicycle is in good, reliable working order at all times.  Our leaders and support drivers will do their utmost to assist you during the Challenge. However, in the event of a serious mechanical failure, our backup team is instructed to recover bicycles and participants.

We suggest that you get your bicycle serviced regularly by a reputable and trustworthy bicycle shop. You should also bring specialised tools/spare parts with you for the event (disc brake pads, spokes, drop-out, cables).  It is your responsibility that you get all the necessary parts/accessories for your bike.

  • We suggest that you do a bike fit at the beginning of the training programme. This will avoid injuries due to wrong positioning and setting. If during the training, you change the bike, your shoes, seat or anything else that may affect your ride, it is of utmost importance that you do another bike fit.

If your bicycle is not good for the challenge on the 1st day, you will not be allowed to make use of the spare bikes, if these are available.

The back-up team will not deviate from the planned route to source and buy any spare parts of your bicycle, or any other cycling wear and/or accessories. You will need to make your own arrangements.

  • Medical & Dietary Information

  • The following document must be submitted before the start of the Challenge:

      • Medical Fitness Certificate signed by a Medical Practitioner

It is exceptionally important that you consider your personal fitness and health status before agreeing to participate in a strenuous physical challenge of this kind.

DO NOT AGREE TO PARTICIPATE IF YOUR DOCTOR SUGGESTS OTHERWISE.

We recognise that everyone should be given the opportunity to take an active part in our fundraising challenges, but we must take every possible measure to ensure the participants’ and third parties’ safety. Pre-existing medical and health conditions are a potential high risk in these events; hence we must be made aware of them.

The Foundation may reject the application if it feels it cannot provide adequate medical assistance due to your medical condition and/or if it may jeopardize the safety to others.

The Foundation cannot be held responsible for any loss and/or damage to body, property and third parties which may arise during and after the training and/or the actual Cycling Challenge.

Please provide a medical certificate that shows that you are fit to take this challenge during the 1st Participants meeting.

Make sure you fill in the medical and fitness section accurately and truthfully.

  • Dietary & Allergy Information

  • The Foundation will do its utmost to provide adequate food/drinks that align with your dietary needs. However, the Foundation cannot be held responsible for any incident/s and omissions, and/or their consequential effects as it does not prepare the food/drinks. It also cannot be held responsible for the quantity that is provided.

    • Participation in the Breast Cancer Awareness month (October) and Movember (November) activities.

    Training:

    • Training starts with the first group session on Sunday 22nd February 2026 and will build up over 17 weeks to ensure that all participants are prepared and fit for the Challenge.
    • The time and distance will increase gradually over the training period, from 160km per week in the beginning going up to 450km per week towards the end of the training program.
    • Training ends one (1.5) week prior to departure to avoid last-minute injuries and ensure all participants are adequately rested for the event.
    • During training you should target a minimum average speed of 20km to 22km per hour. These are indicative only and will be revised based on the performance of the participants during training.
    • Group training sessions will be held every Sunday morning, and you are expected to attend ALL sessions where your progress will be monitored. During these sessions, wearing the official ALIVE training gear and your helmet is COMPULSORY.
    • Failure to attend group training sessions without appropriate justification may result in your disqualification from the Challenge.
    • The Committee reserves the right to move group training sessions to a different day if it deems it beneficial to the group.
    • At the start of the training programme, group sessions will not last more than 3 hours. Eventually, towards the end they might exceed 6 hours.

    Transportation/storage of Bikes:

    • The Bikes will usually be transported by sea and land freight. However, if need be, we will need to take the bike with us on the aircraft.
    • Bikes will need to be packed in Bikes Carton Boxes – these may be obtained from any local bike shop. If they will be shipped, you will need to deliver the bike box at the collection point. The bikes will usually be collected 2 or 3 weeks before commencement of the challenge.
    • During the challenge, the bike boxes and the packing will be transported in the support back-up vans. The boxes will be flattened and the packing will need to be packed in a bag with your name on it.
    • You may put most of the cycling gear and other items in the bike box. However, you will need to put a grab bag in it as once we are at the destination, you will need to pack these things in the grab bag.
    • The bikes will be stored in a locked/safe location in the same hotel that we will be staying. The bike room is just for storage of the bikes and no cleaning, fixing or adjusting is allowed when all bikes are in the room. The room may be small, and the bikes may need to rest on each other.

  • Rules & Regulations:

    1. The aim of the ALIVE Charity Foundation is to raise funds for cancer research. Even though the cycling challenge is our main event, focus should remain on the charitable cause.
    2. During training and the actual Challenge, the cyclists will be representing the Foundation, the sponsors, and the supported entities. All cyclists are expected to behave professionally, and no vandalism and/or public nuisance will be accepted.
    3. For the safety of each cyclist, participants will be grouped according to their level of fitness. Each group will have a lead cyclist/team leader appointed by the Committee. Participants may be asked to change group depending on their progress.
    4. Support vehicles, bicycle mechanics and healthcare professionals may accompany the contingent during the cycling event abroad. This depends on the availability of volunteers.
    5. The wellbeing of the participants is of paramount importance. If during the Challenge a cyclist is not feeling well, or for any other reason he/she falls behind the other team-mates, the team leader or a Committee member, shall ask him/her, without providing justification, stop for the day. Depending on the availability and severity of the injuries, he/she may ride in the support vehicle. Following a consultation with the medical personnel, a decision will then be taken together whether he/she is fit to resume the Challenge the next day or otherwise.
    6. All participants must have a valid E111 (European Health Insurance) card.
    7. Participants must bring their own bicycle, together with all the necessary clothing, GPS devices, parts and accessories needed to complete the challenge. It is the participants' responsibility to bring the right tools, equipment, spare parts, accessories etc. A guideline of what may be needed to get, will be circulated in the participants’ meeting.
    8. Spare bicycles may be available (this depends on the generosity of bike shops) in case a mechanical problem cannot be repaired. In the absence of a spare bicycle, the cyclist is expected to solve the problem himself/herself and organise transport to the next destination. He/she may ride with the support vehicle if there is space and there is no other sick/ill/injured participant who will take precedence.
    9. It is imperative that every cyclist has access to the complete route of the Challenge. A GPS device or a mobile phone application where the route can be downloaded, is therefore a must.
    10. All bicycles must be equipped with rear and front lights.
    11. It is advisable to have adequate eyewear as protection from insects and direct sunlight.
    12. All cyclists must have appropriate clothing for adverse conditions such as rain.
    13. Comfortable accommodation on a half-board basis will be provided during the Challenge, and cyclists are expected to share a multiple room.
    14. Refreshments will be supplied during the day along the route. However, the cyclists must bring their own energy bars and isotonic additives to ensure proper nutrition and hydration.
    15. All cyclists must wear the Alive training or the official Alive2026 Cycling Challenge for Cancer cycling jersey/kit during any training sessions and the cycling event. The cycling jersey/kit must always have all sponsorship logos clearly visible, and no backpacks are allowed.
    16. It is expected that the cyclists wear the official ALIVE2026 cycling jersey after the challenge is concluded so that we will give more exposure to the sponsors who donated towards our cause.
