  • Toxoplasmosis never goes away and is present on 100% of farms in New Zealand. One shot of Toxovax gives your ewes a lifetime of protection against the devastating abortion storms Toxoplasmosis can cause. Vaccination can increase lamb numbers by an average of 3% as well as decreasing the number of dry ewes. Toxovax is one vaccine that pays for itself.

Toxovax is a live vaccine and needs to be given no closer than 4 weeks pre-tup. Toxovax is made to order and has a 10 day shelf-life post manufacturing.

It is therefore important to coordinate your order with management practices on your farm i.e no closer than 4 weeks pre-tup.

Collection of Toxovax is to be organised from your clinic and is ready to be picked up on a Tuesday.

  • Campylobacter is present on 88% of farms in New Zealand and can cause serious lamb losses through abortion storms and the birth of weak, ill thrifty lambs.

Vaccinate with Campyvax4 to prevent Campylobacter abortion storms and increase your lambing by an average of 9%.

Animals receiving Campyvax4 for the first time (i.e hoggets/2ths) require a sensitizer and booster vaccine 4 weeks apart. Thereafter an annual booster 4 weeks before the start of mating is necessary to maintain high levels of protection in mixed age ewes, 52% of which are naïve.

    • Other Vaccines (SalvexinB, Ovastim, Footvax)
    • Image-91
    • Salvexin+B - Salmonella vaccine to prevent abortion caused by salmonella. Given at the end of mating and boosted one month later.

    • Ovastim® is a fecundity vaccine that increases the eggs available for fertilisation by the ram, increasing twinning rates.

Proven in New Zealand and Australian trials
Greater flexibility and timing than with Androvax® Plus, allowing 3-6 weeks between sensitiser and booster shot and a minimum period before mating of 3 weeks

    • Footvax - Footrot vaccine containing 10 strains of Dichelobacter nodosus antigens. Aids in the prevention and treatment of footrot in sheep.

Naïve sheep ideally require 2 shots, 4 weeks apart with the booster not closer than 4 weeks before the start of mating. Previously vaccinated sheep require a single shot booster not closer than 4 weeks before the start of mating.

1 mL dose by subcutaneous injection into the anterior (front) half of the neck.

    • Trace Element Supplementation (Flexidine, Iodine Combo)
    • Image-95
    • Iodine is critical for normal foetal development and animal metabolism. Research has shown that iodine deficiency can impact foetal development from approximately day 50 of pregnancy. The longer the treatment is delayed the longer the chance of affected lambs being born. There are a couple of options of iodine supplementation including oral and injectable (Flexidine). Flexidine is a long-acting injectable product, the best time to treat ewes is pre-mating to ensure sufficient iodine level throughout pregnancy and to protect the ewe over the brassica grazing period.

    • Vet Visit (Ram Palpation, Teasers, Se testing etc)
    • Image-96
    • Ram Palpation

      Ram Palpation

    • Mating soundness check. Includes assessment of scrotal contents and an opportunity to treat footrot in affected rams, if any.

    • Teasers

      Teasers

    • Vasectomised rams used to help synchronise the ewe flock for a more condensed lambing. Teasers must be vasectomised at least 28 days prior to being used.

    • Selenium Testing

      Selenium Testing

    • Blood test representative sample of flock.

Selenium deficiency can increase early embryonic losses in ewes and reduce sperm production in rams. Selenium is also critical for the immune system and to protect against free radical cell damage. We require six ewes from your flock to test for selenium levels. It can also be an opportunity for the vet to condition score ewes as well.
