  • Art Rising 2017: Call For Artists! Submission Open - Apply Below

Art Rising is about interaction. We expect Art Rising to give artists and the people who support them an opportunity to come together, create art together, and build something new together. Attendees aren't just spectators-they're encouraged to move a piece of an installation, take away an element, climb to the top of the art, or snap a photo of it. Art Rising should feel accessible yet offbeat, welcoming yet innovative. The goal is to create opportunities for connections between attendees, artists, and the art itself. And it all happens in South Lake Union, reflecting the contours of this rapidly evolving neighborhood.
  • Eligibility: Open to all visual and performing artists living in the Pacific Northwest

Deadline: Submission application is open on a rolling basis until December 31st. Earlier applications will receive priority consideration and submissions will close when artist capacity has been met. Space is available; apply now!

Compensation: Artists are welcome to find sponsors and/or promote themselves. Participating artists will be promoted through event-related channels.

Fees: FREE A 10'x10x'tented space with 2 chairs is provided. Artists intending to sell work or make any monetary transactions at Art Rising will be charged a $20 vending permit fee. Please keep in mind that this event is not intended for only the showcase and sale of art - it is intended for public interaction. Selling is not prohibited but applications with a strong emphasis on public interactivity will receive priority consideration.

    Event Location

Art Rising will take place on a Saturday May 6th from 10:00am-5:00pm on John Street and in Denny Park in South Lake Union. The street will be lined with art installation spaces, performance spaces, and vendor booths programmed by Urban Craft Uprising.

Other programming elements of the event include: walking tours of Shunpike’s Storefronts Seattle installations and walking tours lead by the Seattle Architecture Foundation. There will also be pop-up performances and additional programming.

Installation artists will have a 10x10 tented space to activate with participant-focused installations and projects. Performance artists will be contacted regarding one or multiple tieslots. Our selection jury is looking for unique, creative ideas that encourage attendees to interact with the art. This may include, but is not limited to the ability to add to a piece or installation, the ability to move pieces, a take-away part, climbing on the art, unique photo opportunities, interactive performances, etc.

    Power & Infrastructure

Art Rising is not currently providing power. Attendees can bring small generators. We will consider power needs on a case by case basis and grant only a few applications that require power as we have a limited capacity.

    Additional Requirements:

Each installation or performance must designate one person to be the lead and main point of contact for the duration of the event. Art must be delivered, installed, maintained, and manned at all times by the artist or art group.

Art installations do not have to be previously built. If you have an idea to create a piece of art and would like to apply to showcase your work, please do!

Only one installation or performance concept per application.

Art Rising is open to both emerging and established artists.

    Artist Selection Process:

The artists for this event will be selected through this call to artists. The Art Rising jury will choose   participants based on the quality of work and creativity in the submitted materials and the proposed design, visual and technical sophistication, the ability to produce interactive outdoor art, and proven ability to coordinate and collaborate with project managers, events professionals and community stakeholders.
