  • Purpose:

    The Filipino BC: Youth Coalition is a dynamic group dedicated to supporting the development of the Filipino Cultural Centre in British Columbia and empowering the Filipino community. By joining the coalition, you become an essential part of shaping the community and generations to come. 

      
    Requirements: 

    The Filipino BC: Youth Coalition welcomes individuals age of 12 - 25, who are passionate about Filipino culture, community development, and making a positive impact. Anyone over the age of 26 can volunteer to mentor and support the youth coalition. Please note that everyone is encouraged to join the Youth Coalition, Filipino or non-Filipino.


    Benefits:

    • Volunteer Hours: As a member, you will have opportunities to earn volunteer hours, which are valuable for school, job applications, and building a strong resume.
    • References: The coalition can provide references for your school or job applications, highlighting your active involvement and commitment to community development.
    • Diverse Experiences: Engage in a range of activities such as campaigning, research, event planning, community and peer engagement. These experiences will broaden your skills and help you develop leadership qualities.
    • Influence the Cultural Centre: Share your thoughts, ideas, and vision for the development of the Filipino Cultural Centre. Your input will play a vital role in shaping its programs and initiatives.
    • Mentorship: Gain guidance and support from experienced mentors who can provide valuable insights and help you navigate your personal and professional development. You also have the option to step into the role of a mentor, actively guiding and supporting others as they embark on their personal and professional growth paths.

     

    Commitment:

    • Monthly Meetings: Attend regular monthly meetings (in-person or virtual) to collaborate, share updates, and plan activities. Additional meetings may be scheduled based on specific needs or events. In-person meetings may take place in the Lower Mainland.
    • Volunteer Time: Participate in various volunteer opportunities that align with your schedule and interests. The coalition values your flexibility and ensures your contributions are meaningful.
    • Community Engagement: Take part in surveys, focus groups, and other community engagement activities to gather valuable insights and feedback from the Filipino community.
    • Awareness Building: Help raise awareness about the Filipino Cultural Centre and its initiatives among your peers and the broader community. Encourage others to get involved and share the importance of Filipino culture.

  • I understand and agree to the following terms and conditions:

    1. Purpose of the Youth Coalition:
      The Filipino BC: Youth Coalition aims to support the development of the Filipino Cultural Centre and empower the Filipino community through positive action and volunteering. Members are to participate in focus groups to gather information and expertise to support the Filipino Cultural Centre. The information collected will be used to create a report that aims to better serve the Filipino community and Filipino youth.

    2. Recording and Use of Information:
      Meetings conducted as part of the focus group may be video and/or audio recorded for internal purposes only. Recordings will be used by the Filipino BC team to ensure accurate documentation, facilitate discussions, and share to any missing members. The recordings itself will not be shared with any external parties without prior consent.

    3. Anonymity and De-identification:
      During the any research studies, participants may share personal or sensitive information. It is essential to respect the confidentiality or anonymity of such information and refrain from sharing it with others unless explicitly permitted by the individual or required by law. Some kinds of data are sensitive and cannot be shared for legal or ethical reasons, including personal identifiers and sensitive ecological data. To protect the confidentiality of participants, de-identification is employed, which involves removing identifying data from a dataset. Once a dataset has been de-identified, it can be shared without disclosing identifying information. However, it is important to note that there is always a risk of re-identifying data, and advancements in technology may introduce new ways to do so. Managing this risk is crucial when sharing research data. There are different approaches to de-identification, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. These include anonymization, which completely removes identifiers, and pseudonymization, which replaces identifiable information with pseudonyms.

    4. Consent to Use Research Information:
      By participating, I give consent for the Filipino BC team to use the research information provided by me during discussions, surveys, or any other research activities. This includes using and sharing the information to create reports, presentations, and other materials related to the development of the Filipino Cultural Centre.

    5. Confidential Information
      As a member/volunteer of the coalition, you may have access to confidential and personal information. You acknowledge and agree that it is your responsibility to maintain the confidentiality of such information and not to disclose any personal information of other members or any shared information or proprietary knowledge without explicit consent from Filipino BC or the respective individuals involved. Safeguarding the privacy and trust of the coalition and its members is of utmost importance, and any unauthorized disclosure or misuse of confidential information may result in disciplinary action. Your commitment to upholding confidentiality ensures a secure and respectful environment for all coalition participants.

    6. Data Storage:
      All personal information and research data collected will be securely stored and managed by the Filipino BC team. Measures will be taken to protect the data from unauthorized access or disclosure.

    7. Liability and Supervision:
      I understand that as a member of the Filipino BC: Youth Coalition, I may have the opportunity to attend events or activities organized by Filipino BC. In such cases, I agree to attend under the supervision and guidance of Filipino BC representatives or designated adult supervisors. I acknowledge that while Filipino BC will take reasonable precautions for my safety and well-being, they cannot be held liable for any accidents, injuries, or damages that may occur during these events or activities. I understand that I have the right to refuse unsafe work. 

    8. Media Release
      I also give consent to the use of your photographs/videos for media release, which may include but is not limited to: Publication in research reports, academic journals, or conference presentations; use in promotional materials, including brochures, websites, social media platforms, and press releases. I understand that I can opt out at anytime by contacting Filipino BC. 

    9. Consent to Receive Marketing Emails:
      By signing this consent form, I also give consent to receive marketing emails from Filipino BC. I understand that I can opt out of these emails at any time by using the unsubscribe link provided in the email or by contacting Filipino BC directly.

    10. Withdrawal of Consent:
      I understand that my participation in Filipino BC: Youth Coalition is voluntary, and I have the right to withdraw my consent at any time without providing a reason. The withdrawal of consent will not affect my relationship with the Filipino BC or its affiliated organizations.
