1. Parties
This contract is made by and between Beacon College, referred to as BC, and the student, referred to as Resident, signing the contract.
2. Eligibility
Any person who is enrolled as a full-time student (12 credit hours) at BC may enter this contract. Students with less than full time standing will be considered on an individual basis. BC does not currently provide family housing on campus.
The date that the contract is received determines eligibility for room assignments on a first come, first served basis. Specific requests cannot be guaranteed. If demand is sufficient, the Office of Housing and Residence Life reserves the right to place additional students in a room.
3. Duration
This contract is binding from the initial term selected through the remainder of the academic year unless the student provides proper notification of cancellation.
Contracts are not transferable from one academic year to another.
BC may immediately terminate this contract upon the Resident’s failure to make payments as required under this contract, for any violations of the terms of this contract, any violation of College or Housing and Residence Life rules and regulations, the Student Handbook, upon closure of the residence hall facilities on campus, or an Act of God.
Term Breaks: Residents must get approval from the Office of Housing and Residence Life to stay in housing over term breaks such as Thanksgiving Break or Spring Break (approval requires extenuating circumstances). An additional fee will be charged to Residents who wish to stay over term breaks. Students are not permitted to stay on-campus during intersession breaks (winter break or summer break) under any circumstances.
If the Resident is a continuing enrolled student, Residents may leave personal belongings in their assigned room during break periods at no charge. BC is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage. Exception: All items must be moved out at check out of spring term unless students are enrolled for the summer term. No items may be left in rooms over summer break.
If the Resident elects to remain in their residence halls during any of the break periods, all policies and regulations as outlined in the Housing Contract, Residential Living Guide, and Student Handbook will apply, and Residents will be held responsible for adhering to all such policies and regulations.
4. Contract Cancellation
Resident may cancel this contract prior to the beginning of the first term of occupancy.
Written notice of the cancellation must be provided to the Office of Housing and Residence Life according to the following terms:
- If written notice of cancellation of contract is provided to the Office of Housing and Residence Life more than 30 calendar days prior to the start date of the term in which housing is requested, the full deposit will be refunded.
- If written cancellation is provided to the Office of Housing and Residence Life 30 calendar days or less prior to the start date of the term, the deposit will not be refunded.
All cancellations must be sent in writing to the Office of Housing and Residence Life at housing@beaconcollege.edu.
Final notice of cancellation to any other office, including admissions, financial aid, accounting services, or registrar’s office, does not constitute notice of cancellation of this contract.
Resident can request, in writing, a release from the contact during any academic term. Such releases are subject to the approval of the Office of Housing and Residence Life. Refunds will be considered through an appeals process through the Office of Accounting Services. Exception: Residents who are dismissed from their housing assignment or BC will not be provided a refund.
BC may terminate this contract at any time in the event the Resident violates policies governing student and residential conduct, non-payment, or for behavioral and health and safety reasons.
Withdrawal from the college terminates the agreement but does not excuse financial obligations. Residents whose contract have been cancelled have forty-eight (48) hours to vacate their housing assignment unless otherwise notified.
5. Fair Housing Act Compliance
Roommate assignments are made on a non-discriminatory basis without regard to race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex, age, marital status, national origin, veteran status, sexual orientation, disability, or other factors prohibited by law.
6. Terms
This contract is not assignable. Assignments and subleases are strictly forbidden.
Residents are required to live in the room to which they have been assigned.
Students who fail to appear for occupancy by the first three days of class will have their room assigned to another student unless written notification is provided prior to the move in date expressing intention of late arrival.
7. Contract Payments
Room rates are established by the Chief Financial Officer and the BC Board of Trustees and are available from the Office of Housing and Residence Life or the Business Office. Rates do not include break periods when the facilities are closed. Contract payments are due and payable in accordance with BC policy before the beginning of the term. Failure to pay any incurred debts for contract changes, damages, fines, or any other assessed charges during the term of this contract will result in ineligibility of the student to process registration for subsequent terms and withholding of student records until all fees and charges are paid in full. Residents failing to pay costs within a reasonable time will have their accounts turned over to a collection agency.
8. Amendment
The College reserves the right to amend this contract as needed. All amendments will be posted prior to enforcement and will have the prior approval of the Office of Housing and Residence Life.
