  • OVERVIEW

    Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences is seeking a qualified and motivated individual for a Postdoctoral Scientist position in the research group of Dr. Nick Record. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a modeling process established for a project related to right whale (Eubalaena glacialis) distribution models for the coastal Gulf of Maine. They will take on modeling research to help answer research questions related to an NSF-funded project. This position comes with a salary of $68,250 along with a generous benefit package.

     

    This position has funding for six-eight months only

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES 

    • Lead a modeling component of an NSF project, including building and running models, guiding research questions, and leading publication of results.
    • Building and running models, as well as editing and running previously developed code as necessary.
    • Working with the broader team, including communication of results and collaboration with other scientists.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    (education, knowledge, skills, abilities, experience)

    • PhD in oceanography, ecological modeling, computational environmental science or similar
    • Experience in species distribution modeling for large, mobile marine animals
    • Experience working with oceanographic and species observation data in the Gulf of Maine
    • Strong quantitative and programming skills
    • Experience working with large, diverse datasets and/or geospatial model output
    • Ability to design, document, and execute computational workflows for data manipulation, analysis and interpretation
    • Strong interest in team-based interdisciplinary science and application of science to management questions
