OVERVIEW
Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences seeks a Research Technician to support research efforts in the Marine Optics Laboratory, the National Center for Marine Algae and Microbiota, and the Center for Water Health and Humans.
This is a short duration assignment, funding for six months secured, with the possibility of an additional six months only.
The salary is commensurate with experience and falls within the pay band $22.89-$32.27 hourly, accompanied by a generous benefits package that includes healthcare, retirement contributions, and paid time off.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(listed in order importance to the position with % of effort/importance for the position):
- Support the research of the Marine Optics Laboratory, including joining the Gulf of Maine North Atlantic Time Series team, and assisting with cruise preparation, participating in single-day cruises, and post-cruise sample analysis [40%]
- Support the research of the National Center for Marine Algae and Microbiota, including working on the Maine Algal Research Infrastructure and Accelerator project to build foundational knowledge supporting algal innovation. [40%]
- Support nutrient analytical services via acid washing, reagent and standard preparation as well as other general analytical support and lab maintenance [20%]
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- BSc in marine science, oceanography or similar
- Familiarity with basic research techniques and microbial oceanography
- Strong interest in a team-based, collaborative working environment
- Willingness to learn new skills (e.g. in the lab, data processing in R/Python)
