Internship Overview

Duration: Summer 2025 (June 30th - August 1st)
About Us: Butterfly Dreamz, Inc. equips young people to be confident leaders and supports them in choosing and excelling in in-demand careers that lead to personal fulfillment, community prosperity, and economic mobility. Through our summer internship, high school students build their STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) skills, social-emotional learning (SEL), and career readiness, while making a positive impact in their communities.
The Summer Community Development Intern will participate in an enriching and educational internship program focused on community-based participatory research (CBPR) and community health. Interns will develop and apply their STEAM skills, facilitate community wellness programs, and engage in research projects that serve over 500 youth and families in Gary, IN.
Responsibilities:
- Community-Engaged Research:
- Conduct data collection through surveys, focus groups, and interviews with community members.
- Utilize photovoice methods to document community barriers and assets.
Co-facilitate intergenerational story circles and safety audits using GIS mapping tools.
- Program Facilitation:
- Support the development and implementation of community wellness programs that promote social connectedness and community safety.
- Organize and participate in community dissemination events such as forums, workshops, and public exhibits.
- Engage with community stakeholders to foster partnerships and ensure continuous community involvement.
- Skill Development:
- Engage in training sessions on research methodology, health equity, CBPR principles, and technical skills such as data analysis and GIS mapping.
- Develop professional skills through career exploration activities, field trips, and mentoring sessions with professionals in STEAM fields.
Qualifications:
- Incomming or current high school student; or recent high school graduate.
- Strong interest in STEAM fields and community development.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to engage with diverse community members and stakeholders.
- Enthusiastic and proactive attitude towards learning and making a positive community impact.
